[quote author=“jiggy”][quote author=“dbs”]What kind of internet connection do you have back home, jiggy?
hard to say. i am one of 500 broadband customers back in kathmandu using wifiZoom (http://www.wlink.com.np) which consists of a radio transmitter installed on top of my rooftop water tank (now empty) and pointed towards the city. there is an eternet cable that runs from the tanktop transmitter to my window and into a powered ethernet plug. that gives me a PPP dialup connection about the speed of a USA 56k modem. well, it seems that slow, and when the wind blows or it rains it gets even slower. Why do u ask? Are u a huge multinational donor interested in hooking nepal to the information superhighway? (we could use an automotive highway while u are at it:)
thanks,
jigs
ps. i just bought an apple airport express and when i get home i am hoping to plug the ethernet cable into that giving me a wireless situation in my flat, but the more i think about it the more i think it’s just likely to fry something. i mean having my laptop/body/whatever hooked to a wire that is connected to an antenna sitting on a metal tower that is one of the highest points in ktm valley during monsoon is not my idea of a good plan, but that’s the way it is.
Be happy to help as soon as Bill Gates passes on and leaves me his estate.
As for my question, I’m just a techno-junkie and am interested in that sort of thing.
re. your ps. If the cable from the radio-modem is standard ethernet and just plugs in your TR, it can’t hurt to try. Wandering wireless is a wonderful thing.
