Even though it was a very good deal, I would never buy used stuff off eBay (especially something like laptop’s)...when it’s eBay I always look around for factory sealed items (obviously selling at lower prices than online stores).

I did notice that…he’s also posted a pic and pointed to that crack with a scissor. As far as the low price goes, he really cant do anything about it…it’s upto the bidders…he would have probably received higher bids if no cracks were on it. But as far as my point is concerned…there might be things that might not be functioning like some of the ports, or the screen might have a few dead pixels, and a few other things which the seller himself might not be aware of so stating them in his desc is not possible.

Let me give you an example here…my uncle bought a used toshiba tecra 8000 (may be 8100) from somone (not on eBay) for ~400 bucks but when I took it from him (he wasn’t using it so I requested him if I could have it ). The PS2 and USB ports were not functioning. The screen had a few dead pixels (I wasn’t aware of dead pixels at the time so I didn’t bother..my roomie told me later about it), the battery functioned for only 1 hr instead of 2. I’m sure there must have been other flaws too.

I bought a T1 camera yesterday from Newegg. All the T1’s on ebay were within $10 or more expensive when shipped. Same with Memory Stick Duos.

I can’t believe how prices bounce around, I’ve often wondered if, when they see you coming (via cookie or email coupon), they don’t adjust prices. I was on buy.com and the T1 was around 450 all day, last night it dropped to 438. Still 428 at newegg.

I’m normally a deals-a-deal kinda guy, but since I only ordered yesterday I was able to cancel my newegg order and pick up the Dell deal on the T1, my thanks to anonymous, whoever you are.

$1000 is an awesome price for a TR2A, even if it only has cosmetic blemishes.  Please post when you get the unit and let us know if it was the deal we think it is.  Good luck. :D

According to the seller its in perfect working condition. I will post to the forum when received and let you know the details. BTW, I have bought and sold many Macs on eBay and the ones I bought were always accurately described and perfect working order. Ever since seeing a TR3A at a local MicroCenter I’ve been drooling. The TR series is definitely the coolest notebook out there. Yes, even over the Apple Powerbooks. I had a Sony C1MSX which was distributed just in Japan. It was cool , but too small. Ah, the TR, just right. And that Xbrite screen-OMG. I will never let this one go. Thanks all once again who respond to this post. Seems like I found myself a new home at TR World.

Great deal on the Tr2.  Perhaps I will put mine on ebay this weekend.  1000.00 sounds more reasonable.  Darn, these things depreciate so quickly!. Anyways, sounds like a great deal.  Guess the deals come to those who wait a while.  Good luck with it, you will enjoy it, no doubt.  Once you go xbrite you will not go back.  I hate looking at my 2 year old desktop LCD (800.00 samsung) after having the TR.

That might happen if the price on a product drops quickly or if people aren’t aware of how to get the product for less price by using rebate coupons (for such a thing u do need to know about the offers on websites…)

eg: I want to buy the AMD Athlon 64 3500+ processor and I had been following its prices for quite sometime on pricegrabber. It started off at around 497, dropped to 460 on zipzoomfly (and I ordered it then). Next morning I checked back and it dropped to 399 (luckily I cancelled my order). Other stores also started dropping it’s price and finally it dropped to 350 on zipzoomfly. While all this was happening people were selling it on eBay for 500 or so and auctions had a day or so to go with 360-370 being the highest bid at the time (which means the bid only got higher). Unfortunately, the prices have started going up again..now to 370 at zipzoomfly.  :cry:

Another one could be the WD 10,000 rpm SATA drive…someone bought it on eBay for 190+10 bucks for shipping. Currently newegg has it for 161 after $20 rebates.

I guess it’s all about knowing where to look…some people even make a few bucks by offering sites which sell a certain product for a price much lower than the one offered on eBay :wink:

When I was new in USA, I spent 1200 bucks on my dell desktop system. I had no idea about coupons or other deals…I’m sure I could have saved atleast 200 bucks that way

A good example of what I was talking about were the Sennheiser 250 headphones on Amazon for $80 a few hours later they were $99. Other sites were still selling for $125+

I did check coupon sites and price engines (which are not always accurate) before ordering the T1. Lots of the really good deals show up places like here, where they get shared rather than broadcast. I don’t know where “anonymous” got that coupon code, but I sure didn’t run into it. Regardless, I’m grateful. I’ve gotten some use out of Drachens luggage code too…

That sounds like a great deal, TR666x. Congrats on getting a TR at a very good price. I actually bought my TR3A off ebay. It was $300 more than yours about 3 months ago, but I thought it was a great deal nonetheless. I hardly ever buy new anymore.

I would buy brand new if I didn’t feel like my computer was going to become “outdated-ware” in the next year or two. As long as it can keep up and running for at least 6 months to a year, that’s all I need. I usually upgrade to a “new” ( used, but better ) laptop in a few months anyways, so second-hand isn’t a “big” for me, though it is nice to have brand new when I can acquire a good deal for one. Otherwise, I’m sticking with the MIB market.

Again, congrats. Looking forward to hearing more about your acquisition when you finally receive your TR.

Received unit this AM, and everything is in order. The battery was completely dead so I had to go purchase an AC adapter for it. I went to CompUSA and picked Sony AC for $100. (ugh), I could have bought a cheaper brand, but I just wanted everything to work properly. I plugged it in and crossed my fingers as I turned it on. Everything lit up like Xmas. I couldn’t be happier. There are a couple of little scratches on top of the unit and a little piece of the top back corner missing (3mm) which I took alittle piece of silver duct tape to cover it. Other than that the TR is truly in perfect condition. I’m using it righ now. Now if someone won’t min telling me how to install all the Sony programs and everything on it. I remember reading they don’t give you restore CDs with this and you have to make your own. I found a bunch of Sony exe’s in the C drive, but just don’t want to go willy nilly installing them. Thanks everyone. BTW, the screen is remarkably bright and clear.

I forgot to mention that the unit was a TR2AP instead of a TR2A which made the deal even sweeter. :D
