[quote author=“rec”][quote author=“TruthSeeker”]You all are so funny trying to play Doom3 with the TR. Its like entering an Olympic swimming event with no arms.
Even funnier is that I will be able to download Doom3 for free and be able to play it on an average card in about a year.
I don’t want to play it on the TR. I just want to run it :D
Just for the Feeling of running doom3 on a TR

I get it. Kinda like trying to enter your Taurus in the Indy 500…
It’s official, I hate Doom3. After playing it for 2 days (not straight) I can clearly say I am bored and unimpressed. I went through 3 levels and am not giving this game any more time.
My complaints:
1. Repedative
2. Not enough interaction - IE, you can’t break enough things, IE glass, etc.
3. Even maxed out, the graphics aren’t blowing me away…maybe i’ve been spoiled, but blah…
Called up Sams Club…they will take it back no questions asked within 30 days…woohoo I get my $45 back…
For the years of waiting I expected much much more.
Id Software has never made any truly good games; however, they have been the ones that pushed the technology so that we could have good games.
I find that most of their games are simply technology demos in order to sell their game engines to companies. That said, Id only set out to remake the original Doom but with much better graphics and some spook factor.
Is it repetitive? Hell yes but purposely so. All of the original Dooms were repetitive.
I too was hoping for a different kind of game play but was somewhat disappointed by the old school mechanics. I was hoping for some two fisted action but it seems like our hero is unable to tap his head and rub his belly at the same time. The fact that you can’t use the flashlight and a gun at the same time is ridiculous.
I can wait for the first 3rd party that licenses the engine and makes a really good game out of it…or any cool mods. As it stands though, it is a remarkable piece of technology and it runs on a lot more hardware (playably) than most people thought.
I love the way you take such a strong stand on it tifosiv. Never mind that there are so many people here that LOVE it and are just DYING to get it to run on the TR .
I’m not bothering with it right now. School is starting and I don’t want to start getting addicted to playing games right as it starts. Halo is fine for me.

Actually the games gotten mixed reviews…half say they love it, the others side with me. Yes, Doom was repetitive, but that was in the ‘90s, things change…this isn’t a decent game by today’s standards.
All I have to do is go back to Duke 3D to see what can be done…that game you could interact (or destroy) nearly everything…unlike D3.
Blah, I’ll stick with Rainbow 6, something that requires a bit more thought…it’s a shame, for someone who grew up with Doom, I am very dissapointed. (I still remember needing a boot disk to run Doom)..pathetic.

Someone already created a ‘duct-tape’ mod that allows the flashlight to work with the basic weapons…it was on /. a few days ago.

I mean here, in this forum and more specifically in this thread. Most of the people in here like the game.

I can agree with these cricisms and add that the game is overly scripted. When you get to waypoint #1253, monster type #6 appears right behind you and a pair of type #14 come from around the corner. If you play through it once, and you have a halfway decent memory, you know exactly what’s coming around next and what to do about it.
I do disagree with your overall assessment of the graphics though. The models are pretty good except for the humans (and most of the textures are not great) but what really impressed me was the normal mapping. It makes the relatively low-poly models shine. What really takes the graphics down is the overuse of the lighting engine (can’t appreciate an ugly monster if you can’t see it) and the utter repetitiveness of the level design.
The first level was mind-blowing in terms of atmosphere, but going through the game they don’t keep it up. I’m definitely enjoying it more than Far Cry.

Agreed, some of the graphics are good, but your right, the people need work. You hit it right, repetitveness of the level and the scripted play…exactly what caused me to be bored.
