With the new number portability in effect, I’m going to change carriers and get a new cell phone. There’s too many to choose from on the market now, and I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for a phone that would work well with the TR.

I’ve always been a Nokia guy, but the Sony Ericsson phones with Bluetooth look pretty nifty. I could sync the phone through a cable too, so BT isn’t a must-have, but if it works well, then why not? Thanks in advance!

I’m a huge fan of the Sony Ericsson T610/T616. It’s a very well-made little phone and it matches the design scheme of the TR very well. I use BT and the Sony BT dongle to surf the Net every day on the train while commuting. After experiencing Bluetooth working the way it was designed, I’ll never go back to cables.

Thanks for the recommendation Drachen, I managed to take a look at a T616 in person. It’s quite a nice phone, and looks much better than Nokia’s weird-looking recent efforts. What carrier are you with? I can choose between AT&T and T-Mobile here, and was wondering what kind of plan you have that allows for net access through the phone. Thanks! 

I’m with T-Mobile. They have a cheap unlimited Internet data plan for $20/mo as long as you have a phone plan over $30/mo. Otherwise it’s $30/mo. Using their proxy server, it’s almost as fast as dial-up. I’d definitely ask around how the reception is and use their 14-day trial before making the leap. The reception is great in the NYC metro area, but I’ve hear otherwise in more rural areas. A consultant I work with lives on Long Island and hates T-Mobile’s reception.

I picked up a T616 from AT&T since T-Mobile’s coverage is spotty around here. What a fantastic phone, and the Bluetooth is awesome! If only PC users had something like Sailing Clicker on the Mac side, I’ve been having fun controlling the DVD player and iTunes on my PowerBook. Thanks again for the advice Drachen!

Hi guys, this is my first post here.  Have you guys seen the Sony Ericsson T630?  Its just coming out on eBay, and its a tri-band phone so it can travel with you and your TR.  It has bluetooth as well.  Plus it has pretty much the same color scheme.  Predominantly white.  I think it is the T610/T616 reincarnated.  I am using a Sony Ericsson P900 right now but I’m still waiting to get my TR2A, and I’m glad I found this forum.  Happy Holidays.

if you have a SE phone and bluetooth then it is a MUST, and yes if you are using the ms native bluetooth then it does have proximity mute/unmute lock workstation etc and has scripting so you can make it do what ever you want :D:D:D:D:
