[quote author=“Godspeed”]Ok,
Got my wireless office 3G card on Monday, lets me connect to the the internet from anywhere in the uk. If I am in a 3G area I get speeds of up to 114 kbps, if I go out of a 3G zone it goes to something called 2.5G, which to me is the equivalent of a dial up connection.
So in theory this is great, in practice it’s not the case. Going on a train trip from London to Brighton I thought I’d give the card a bash and see what was happening on the TR forum. The card could not maintain a strong signal whilst on a moving train and completely dropped out at times.
So if you want to surf the internet whilst sitting at the park or in a hotel or even on the beach then the 3G wireless card is great. However if you expect to surf the net commuting everyday don’t bother.
interesting post! i wonder if they use radio repeaters like here in nepal. they suck and at best are a little faster than dialup…i also hate how everyone calls their service something different, ie. 2.5 G, WI-FI ZOOM, etc., which i think is to hide real speeds from the consumer.
