When I play far cry after a little while I get crakling.  It first starts of slow and then it gets so annoying I have to restart.

First I thought it was my onboard sound.  AC97, but I went over to the ol’ Circuit City and purchased a Turtle Card Santa Cruz model.  It was around $60 bucks or so.  Anyway it did the same thing.

Returned that card for one of the best Audigy 2 zs and I am getting the same thing just with better sound effects. lol

Please help!!! I’ve tried everything.  I tried reinstalling updated drivers, checking connections.

not sure i understand ur post - are u plugging in external sound cards?  but here is a link to a sound driver upgrade…i’d try that.  if that don’t work?? is the problem in the speaker/headphone jack or both?
 

how about the graphics??..is it smooth? if the graphics is not smooth then the sound can also sound weird.
