The two problems with liquids in keypads or electronics in general is that water (primarily the minerals dissolved in the water) cause signals and power to go all sorts of places they’re not supposed to go. Wines and soda add the element of gunk to sticky things up. With the power off and batteries removed there’s little if anything inside any electronic device that water can hurt, perhaps a label.
Before I went replacing a keyboard assembly, I’d strip it down, short of total disassembly, and give it a good bath… rinsing with distilled water and, perhaps, blowing it off with a “canned air” aerosol you can pick up at most electronic and photo stores. Let it dry a good long time, days, not hours.
Don’t use detergent and if you must scrub, use something like a soft artists brush.
