Rock Computers’ PuRAM Technology

OnMyWayUp, I knew there was something special about you!  Right now Drachen and tifosiv122 are scratching their heads wondering how they are going to put up with the two of us.  You rock. :D

LOL…i was going to post this yesterday on the thread where they were bashing us all but I couldn’t remember which thread it was…

However I will not say that this technology is running cheap at a cost of $4999 per PuRAM drive…(and unfortunately it looks like it would have to be included in one of their laptop or desktop configurations rather than being able to buy it seperately…)

But hey…the technology isn’t in the distant future…its already here.

Neither of us said it was impossible, just impractical. Considering that it adds $5000 to the price of the computer, I think Erik and I were right on the money. Nobody’s going to break down the doors wanting one of these when you can have 250GB on a hard disk for $200. By the time this becomes practical to use in cost terms, hard disks will be much bigger and there will be alternative persistant memory options that will be better than flash.

Speaking of which has anyone ever actually seen one of these Liebermann computers in the wild yet?

umm yea…Malibu coffee house… where else would you expect to see one? 

And nevertheless, as stated by either you, gr00vy, or another, the technology isn’t going to be till the distant future?  Is it just me or does that sound like it means it isnt going to be available till th distant future period??? :wink:
Clearly the technology is available and once it “hits the fan” there are going to be so many competitors striving to develop a similar product, prices will be coming down…

PLUS, it isn’t that fact of the size alone.  This PuRAM works in conjunction with a standard hard drive for storage purposes.  This loads the most used data onto it and will use a regular hard drive for the larger, bulkier, less accessed information.

We all need to buy jetpacks. After all, they’re the transportation wave of the future and the technology has already been developed! By 1986 everyone will be using them!

1. I never said it wouldn’t happen…I own 3 10GB drives right now…all flash.

2. I did say it would not replace standard drives, which it wont. It will always be more expensive then alternatives.

3. That website is BS, try ordering something from it. Magazines have tried, and they only deliver the believable.

We have come a long way with solid state, but SS will never replace moving media…period. (In general computing)

i remember the days when 400 mb of memory was killer.  8 megs of ram would’ve costed you a thousand dollars
