Just wondering. Personally I fired it up about twice when i first got it for the novelty value, but since it has lain dormant, always staring, seeing everything I do….watching…....always watching…....what does it want?.....please stop looking at me….
I use it as my webcam…it’s resolution, i think, is way to low for too much more than that.
Although sometimes for quick snap of a hot gurl at Starbucks or Borders… ...joking….ive only done that once…

I share the same thoughts. Basically, if the next TR does not come with the camera, I would not even notice.
[quote author=“dbs”]I seem to remember somewhere/somewhen seeing a screensaver type app that would take a picture of anyone messing with your pc while you were away
i love that screen saver, the Viao VJCamera Screensaver, there was a link in this forum somewhere, but the interface is all question marks now so cant tell if u can have it snap images at intervals. that would be cool - but might take up a lot of space unless you could have it just save the image of the person when they touched your keyboard!
i think i deleted some file somewhere that the screen saver prog needs to translate the interface into Japanese, which is what the default and only option is.
so that’s what I use the camera for, a cheap security system as I have it pointed out on my patio and it alerts me when i have crows messing with my flowerbed. That way i don’t have to look outside, ever. I also use the camera as a webcam all the time. it’s great for that. I’ve also used it to take pics of whiteboards and whatnot when i teach and actually put something worth saving in front of my students…which i admit, is once in a blue moon. but the camera is about the quality of a cell phone camera, and everyone seems to be using them for some silly a** reason. still, while I am here talking to cyberspace, i might as well say this to SONY: ditch the camera if that’s what it takes to fit decent speakers into the lid! the current ones s**K. thank you for listening.

The camera is certainly important for me since when I was in USA I used it while chatting with my parents…made them feel very happy that way (I dont have a webcam for my desktop)...I obviously plan on using it again after getting back there.
I don’t find it that important, but it is nice to have, since I travel a lot. Obviously, it is hardly a hassle to buy a separate webcam and pack it into a laptop bag; so it’s not as if we bought the TR because it has a webcam, rather because it has an integrated webcam.
That having been said, I hardly use it. I think I’ve used it more to show it off to people! But I do like it, since that “ooh and ah” factor which I get from people also applied to me…
I wouldn’t go so far as to say ditch the camera, rather I think Sony should make it more than a toy - at least bring it up to the screen resolution so you could snap an acceptable image.
The thing that makes the TR outstanding, IMHO, is that it has virtually everything I need and might want or need in one integrated tiny package.
My experience has been that every accessory I have to pack is one more thing to carry, keep track of and leave in a hotel rooom. that’s why I’m going to put back the Bluetooth that Sony didn’t think I needed at 2-4 times the cost of a BT or wireless mouse. *They* could have done it for less than fifty bucks.

Thanks.
thanks for that reminder matt, is seems then that there is no capture option in the screensaver. if one had the source code i suppose one could program it to snap a picture whenever the STOP button was pressed, then you could record whomever was messing with ur machine, unless of course they were smart enough to swivel the camera first. unless of course you also had a routine that snapped a shot whenever a change in the image was detected, but this is all probally beyond the realm of possibility at this point. :xeno:
