well, 40megs just dont cut it in todays world, and my C drive is down to 3.5 b…so i am looking for ways to free up space there without trashing my system, which is PERFECT almost except for this little space problem. I installed the megasecurity update that MS released yesterday and my C drive went from 4.0 gb to 3.6 and i was just dumbfounded.  1/2 gig price to pay for MS screwups - arghhh…

So, i am looking for a list of dirs and progs that i can get rid of that have to do with MS that i dont need/want.  Like outlook express…how do u get rid of that?  and can IE be removed safely these days?  I remember a day when that was impossible. And what are all those $NtUninstallKBxxxxxx$ dirs under WINDOWS.  And there is that i386 directory that reminds me of the old NT days…but I guess that’s for what?  reinstallation of drivers and whatnot? 

Also, is there a tool that can clean out the Add or Remove Programs/Currently Installed Programs list.  There are entries there that I guess are no longer synced with an uninstall routine and do nothing - or worse - when you click remove.

The 40gb hd really does not cut it, I try to keep most of my documents on an external HD, photo’s, videos etc. In relation to cleaning up your C:, Jiggy, how do you defrag it when there is no space (15%). Is there a way of telling the defrag program to use another temp drive so it can defrag a (full) drive properly. Wow that was a question and it really in no way at all, helped you Jiggy, but hey it’s better than starting a new thread. Hope the weathers nice in Katmandu

godspeed, well thanks alot! but to answer your Q i have both a C and a D, and both are at about the same level of fullness, but the C has 25% left and the D 16% left. So that’s how I defrag.  Last time I had to efrag D I was offloading files to my external drive, but now I am at a point where I want everything that’s on the TR miserable teenie drive. So what to do?  I am looking for anything to remove from C, where all my programs are. There must be stuff there that Bill Gates’ company does not require…what could they be?  I’ve even removed CALCULATOR, figuring that when I am on the road I have 10 fingers and 11 toes. :xeno:
