Great forum! I found it last night about midnight as I was going to go to bed and instead ending up reading the forum for a couple of hours so now very tired at work! trying to keep my eyes open :shock:

I really dont know what to do so would like your help, its a bit of a story so here goes.

Ive been looking at getting a TR series for a long time, last month when I left the UK for a holiday in the USA as far as I knew (as I hadnt seen forums like this) the TR3 was the latest version of the TR series, it wasnt out in the UK but only the USA - which is the usual way of things happening, we get things later.

So we are on a cruise and call into Fort Lauderdale and I go to a shop called BrandSmart and see a TR3A with a $200 instant rebate, and on impulse buy it. I had been asking everywhere for the TR3 dvd writer version but no one seemed to stock it - although I really did want the dvd writer version - but the $200 instant rebate made me buy it - I was possesed LOL :twisted:

I fall in love with it, im on the ship, using the ships wifi to connect to the internet, chatting to friends back in the UK via messenger from the middle of the ocean on webcam, I watch a DVD on the 10 flight from Miami back the UK - im loving it!

Anyway I get back to the UK and out of no where the Sony TR5 appears on sony.co.uk - the ultimate machine, with the dvd writer.

And even stranger is that I thought the TR3 released in the USA would soon follow to the UK, however we skip the 3 and go straight to the 5.

So ive just sold the TR3 on ebay, lost about £100 ($180) but when does anyone make money selling second hand electronics!

Im all set to buy the TR5 for £1399 (£2500) which is a good price then last night i find this forum.

After reading many posts it seems we are about to see a whole new TR series from Sony, maybe TR-X with a new Dothan processor etc.

So what do I do? I can get the TR5 now but will feel gutted if within a month or 2 Sony release a new TR series, I can wait a couple of months and survive with my very old Toshiba laptop.

I know the old technology rule, that if you always wait for new technology then you never buy anything and if I thought that the next release would be a TR6 with a slightly faster processor etc then I would buy the TR5 today but it seems there could be an ALL NEW vaio TR series about to appear? with darker casing etc (and yes I am one of these idiots who just loves the newest gadgets!!)

As you can see - Im torn between the TR5 and the old waiting game

Any thoughts, info, help or advice would be great.

if you needed a dvd burner you could of added one your self to your TR3A. what do you intend on using your tr for?

many uses really, I travel a lot so DVD player, i use hotels alot so PC access in hotel rooms, i use sony digicams and on the move I want to be able to burn images via the mem stick to disc

Bluetooth to sync with my XDA II

then general PC/notebook useage

I am sure that when I have one longer for a week then I wont put it down and use it more and more!

just to let you know the dvd burner on the tr aren’t exactly the fastest thing out. but it gets the job done. imo the tr3a with dvd-rw mod or the tr5 would be more than sufficient for your needs. i have my tr since jan..haven’t used my built-in camera no more than twice.. but bluetooth have to be by far the most frequently used feature on my tr. i use it to for my bt keyboard, mouse & sync my phone and pda.
