I figure since everybody here uses tiny computers, maybe you use tiny printers, too….

I sometimes need to travel with a printer, didn’t like the quality of printouts on thermal paper from my Pentax PocketJet, so I bought a fairly small HP (3420?) for only $40 after rebate.  Big mistake, I got so frustrated with constant paper jams I ended up abandoning it in my hotel room rather than bring it home from my last trip.

So, now I’m looking at a more expensive tiny printer, the Canon i80—anybody have any experience with this one?  I don’t care about photos, or even color for that matter—I just want to be able to print out black-and-white text pages, quickly and reliably, wherever I happen to be.

I had an i70, and upgraded to an i80 when it came out. It works wonderfully, the print speed is fast and you can print a ton of pages using the rechargeable battery. The ink goes pretty fast, but it’s cheap ($18 for two carts) and easy to carry an extra one in your bag. If you want to print wirelessly, the Bluetooth works well but does slow down the printing a little bit. If you haven’t seen one in person, it’s awesome, very small and light. The color output is very nice as well in case you get an itch to print photos, but I mainly use mine for b/w output.

i had an i70 for a couple of years and be careful, i am not sure the canon printer quality is what u would expect of canon. the problem was with the battery. it died right after the 1 year mfg warrenty. then with a new battery it developed a strange hardware error that was never resolved.  the battery was also hard to find. i considered it a costly throwaway product that i hardly ever used. now i have the canon i905d and i think it’s the best printer EVER for a SOHO setup. photos are spot on (almost) and the build quality looks good to go (farther than mfg warrenty). good luck.

Thanks for the replies.  Compactness and reliability are bigger factors for me than print quality (when I travel it’s with a lot of electronic gear in addition to computer and printer, so the less I have to haul around, the better); sounds like the little Canon will do the job.
