I picked up this line from a forum :
Scores of Indian cities/towns like Cochin,Quilon, Calicut,Trivandrum,Trichur,Bombay,Madras,Calcutta etc were renamed because they attached colonial stigma to the Anglicised name
I have absolutely no idea what that means. There was one more city:
Cochin to Kochi.
I hate these new names because they are harder (especially the one for Madras (Chennai)) to pronounce and don’t sound that good.
Also the international airport in Mumbai had it’s name changed…Sahar International to Chhatrapati Shivaji International.
