Will a Dell Wireless TrueMobile 1450 802.11a/b/g WLAN Mini PCI work in the TR3 ?

Ask Dell if it’s a Type IIIB (3B) miniPCI card. If it is then it will likely work. If it’s a Type IIIA (3A) miniPCI card then it will not fit into the system. They may actually have a spec page so be sure to thoroughly check their site.

I know that they offer them for the dell laptop. Are there different size of mini PCI ?

Yeah, you’d better check with Dell before you order it. They have absolutely no information on their site regarding the type of miniPCI. It’s so frickin’ lame.

for what its worth, I put my intel 2100b Type IIIB card from my tr into my bro’s inspiron 4100 and that dell has a Type IIIA Mini PCI card slot.

That doesn’t help us too much. Type IIIB cards are smaller than Type IIIA cards.

The actual miniPCI connector is standard. However, the overall size is different. Because of the space limitations in the TR and other designs that use Type IIIB (3B), Type IIIA cards will generally not fit.

I can assure you that a IIIA card will not fit in a TR. I went through that hassle initially when I was researching the upgrade. I tried a Dell Truemobile part before and found out it was IIIA only after it arrived. It was a gamble that didn’t pay off.

I almost want to say that Dell uses Type IIIA cards for most of their designs since all they make are “large” sized notebooks where they don’t really care if the card is smaller or not.
