Anyone else see this 2.5” drive enclosure on E-Bay?  I am 99.9% sure it is not a Sony product.  Pretty cool though.

wow john thanks for that! buy it and let us know if works or not…it’s sure cheap. i am looking for a new drive enclosure/drive for a backup solution of 80+ gigs…dunno if this would help me or not, but i wont be in the states for another few weeks….

ps, is this something u would stuff in there?  bloody expensive!
 

Funny thing is I bought one (not this one) the other day. Then I see this. For the cash I think I am going to grab this. I have like 5 NB HD’s so the other one wont go to waste. I will keep you all updated. Oh and on a side note, you can get this in a few colors!!!!

Hey jigs, If you cant find something to ur liking, and 80 gigs is ok with you then u could try the Sony giga vault drive…its quite pricey though. Here’s a pic of it on top of the TR to give u an estimate of the size:

i like it!  is it in 2 parts cause one part is the charger?  strange… but that would make sense.  less to carry if u dont need power?  what’s the CHEAPEST i should expect to pay next month? thanks for that rahul…

yup its in 2 parts…the smaller one is supposedly the battery/charger. But it also happens to be the place where ur power cord and firewire cable gets connected. So, u have to have it at all times. It’s quite silly…even though its a charger, u have to connect the power cable when using it with the TR (since the TR uses the 4 pin interface, power cord has to be connected) and on my desktop which has the 6 pin interface, it’s connected for days together and still stays on (so it probably draws its power from the motherboard).

There is a USB one too, but it was much more expensive than the firewire one so I purchased the firewire one.
I bought it earlier from securemart for 317 including shipping, etc.

As far as the transfer rates go, as could be expected it’s no where close to 50 MBps but I got speeds like 700 megs in 1 min (~10 to 11 MBps) when I transferred an avi to it from the TR.

looks like they dont provide one…they only mention

1 premium FireWire Cable (6-pin to 6-pin)

my gigavault drive came with a 6 pin to 6 pin wire and a 6 pin to 4 pin wire.
I dont think however it would be much of a problem to get one…you could always do a search for one.
