If any of you have upgraded your TR to a DVD writer I ‘d be interested in buying your old cd-r/dvd drive to replace the failed one in my TR1MP. You’d also need to be willing to ship the drive to the UK.

Anyone interested, please contact me ... I really don’t want to be without my main machine for the couple of weeks it’ll take to go back to Sony!

wait wait u mean there is a replacement DVD writer for a TR, like my new TR3?  I was thinking about getting an external DVD writer, but if there is an internal one that would be better…but this won’t help u, sorry.

if u burn a lot of dvd’s then it would make sense for u to have an internal dvd-rw however, if u burn only ocassionally like me then it really doesn’t make sense to spend an extra 450-500 bucks. I made a mistake by buying the TR3AP3..it would have been better for me to get the TR3AP2 and spend an extra 200 bucks on an external dvd-rw. I would highly recommend u get the external dvd-rw…u also have 2 optical drives that way.

thank u o wise one, that is truly good advice! of course.  and WHOA!!! what about that insane SonyPrice! conventional wisdom says an internal drive would be cheaper.  I guess that says it all about Sonyness. :D

it is still cheaper since their slim external dvd+-rw costs 500 bucks   and this internal one now costs 470 or so (earlier it was 275):lol:

That must be the bigger one..I was referring to the slim one…it appears they discontinued the particular model I was referring to but have come out with another one which is 100 bucks lesser and black in color (the earlier one was greyish)

I’m sure u could save another 100 bucks by buying it from some other place instead of from sonystyle.
