i was wondering, because i like to leave my desktop on all day and never turn it off because of downloading.  i was wondering if that was wise to do with my tr laptop using the ac adapter… or will it damage the laptop for being all for so long?

thats a good question.  i can only say that i do, the TR is my desktop, and it’s plugged in with the adapter whenever i am home. i have a battery that i have been using since last august that now looks like this:

charge cycles: 65
remaining cap: 45.3
full charge cap: 45.57
design capacity: 47.73

whatever that means! and the power here is to put it lightly - DANGEROUS - it’s always spiking, going out 20 times a day, etc… so far so good, just one hard drive crash, but it wasn’t when it was plugged in…

jiggy: are you using one of those circuit thingies? I dunno what they’re called, the ones that rpevent electrical surges/spikes? They’re long and grey/green/beige and have multiple outlets in them?  I use them and even if my powers wonky I’m set.  My VAIO’s been on 16 hours a day, most weeks, and so far it seems okay.  HD gets a little warm, but the only way i see it doing any harm is if HD gets temp crazy.

nox, thanks for ur concern, so sweet!  but do i have surge protection!  you have to have a voltage regulator to line condition the 220, then i have a huge 2 hour UPS battery back up box that conditions the line from that, cause i don’t trust the indian made regulators.  i’ve had two smoke and burn on me already, but the flat that i live in is an electrical hazard.

having said all that it makes me think i should use the battery all the time!  but that’s not practical…oh well, knock on and hold wood…
