And yet it’s probably the number one youth sport in the US. Go figure.

[quote author=“deathstar”][quote author=“chokran”]I’m really looking forward to see the Netherlands asses getting kicked…
I think you won’t be disappointed
I did not get to watch the match between Germany and Czech ... was it Czech (2nd team?) that is good or was it Germany that sucks? I was expecting Germany to win this game, and to win it BIG. :(

Czech was good and Germany did suck. The fact that Czech came from behind to win all their league matches proves that they are good and Germany losing to Czech second string attack proves that they were pathetic.

Football? Never heard of it.
I got turned off the sport after I suffered from glandular fever at school and had to sit in a classroom and copy the rules of football from a book for 3 months, whilst everyone else was out playing.
Now people think I’m just weird for disliking the sport, but I’m afraid I don’t like what it symbolises to me - lager, violence and an unbelievable waste of money.

I used to be the same but watching a couple of more cerebral football matches on telly changed my view - also I think I would still agree with you if talking about a match between say Millwall and Wimbledon, but a game between France and Brazil seems to elavate football out of the gutter and into the stars.
mick.

Fair point - I’ve only really been exposed to the UK angle, which seems to contain much of the negative aspects - I’m sure most other countries focus more on the game rather than the thuggish culture the UK seems to promote.
Sorry, I don’t mean to annoy the Uk fans here.

I guess it’s the feel that you have for a game that makes the game interesting. Some people watch the game because their love ones are playing, most people watch because they feel something for the club or team (such as national team) and some people bet to get the “thrill”. I only enjoy watching teams that I support. :D
I agee with you that being extreme is bad. It’s, afterall, just a game.

If you get paid £150,000 a week i guess you really wouldn’t want to work in your holidays,(need time to spend it). So if you are clever enough you work out if you loose in the tournament you can go home and party.
After Rooney went off I couldn’t bear to even watch England last night, you could see they were going to loose, it just took longer than i thought it would, what agony!
Nice idea that we should have been allowed the goal despite pushing the goalie to the ground!
Now for the prolonged agony of watching Henman trying to win Wimbledon!

was that a bad call by the ref? At another forum which is UK based and has most members from UK, most of them are crying about being robbed…
but someone has also mentioned that the other player hindered the goaly from jumping up and getting a hold of the ball…is there such a rule ??
I really do think a game like football needs television replays implemented. That way the game can be held up for a few secs while the ref incharge of the television replay can make a decision for controversial decisions given by the main ref. It’s really imp. especially when u consider that most matches dont have more than 1 to 2 goals scored.

I thought there was a discussion some time back to make the goal poles wider apart?

Mrs Gadget either knows nothing about football or was watching a different match!!!
There was nothing wrong with the Goal - bad Ref call.
But saying that, the Portugese played better & deserved to win really.
Most people I know both casual watchers & die-hard fanatics all agree the goal was good.

I only got to watch half a match (Portugal against Greece) for this whole Euro 2004 and Portugal actually played like !%$!$%. I really cannot imagine that they are playing better than England? With the amount of space that they are giving their opponent (Greece), it difficult for the opponent not to score. :(
So, who is the better team so far? Czech?

I meant to say that someone else too at the other forum mentioned a similar point to that of Mrs. Gadget.
