I was disassembling the TR in order to add a wireless G card to it. As I was trying to unscrew one of the screws of the TR, the screw is getting pretty stripped. I was wondering if anyone has a similar experience with mine? What method is the best for removing stripped screws? I bought a screw extractor kit from Sears today that is meant for unscrewing stripped screws ranging from 3mm to 6mm bolts when attached to a drill. I was afraid, however, that the drill is going to break the motherboard (not a pretty thought at all). Any inputs on this matter will be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time.

Honestly, when I was taking those screws out I was real careful because I knew if they stripped i’d be screwed. I would personally close the TR and live with B, but if you really want G…

Assume you get the screw out, now you need to replace it. Its not an everyday screw…so, i’d make sure I have a new one from Sony first. Then, i’d prob use some sort of needle-nose plyer to twist the screw free. I would not suggest using any sort of power tool.

Can I ask why you think you need G over B? By this I mean, what sort of things do you do wirelessly?

Thanks for your advice, tifosiv122. I would try to get the smallest plier I can find at a hardware store tomorrow.

I prefer to have G on my vaio because I have to backup a lot of data (files and graphics) between my desktop and my laptop. It takes forever for the transfers to go through due to the limiting bandwidth available with B. Having bought a G Wireless router, I would love to have G capabilities on my TR to speed things up.

When facing a busted TR if he slips while trying to take the stripped screw out.

I just asked because some people will think that G will give them a faster internet speed, which we all know is not true. qua77ro is using G for the right reason, therefore its worth it for him to try and get the screw out.
