The way I see it, the choice between Sony and Canon is a matter of portability vs. quality. I have used both cameras before (S400 & T1) and I can say that the Canon takes better quality pictures out of the two. The quality of T1 images are acceptable, but you should keep in mind that the camera doesn’t take pictures in dim conditions as well as the S500. T1 pictures have a persistent problem with red eye, which isn’t too much a problem with PhotoShop but a pain nonetheless. Canon images are crisper and better defined than Sony ones, in my opinion. However, when it comes to portability, the T1 can’t be beat. Not only is the case well made and the camera slim, the 2.5” LCD alone puts the camera in a class by itself. The sleek camera is also an attention-getter no matter where you go. To sum it up, if you want better quality pictures at the expense of portability, go with Canon. If you want to have a sleek camera with ultimate portability, go with the Sony. You can’t really go wrong with either one.
