I want:
1 gig of RAM
XP Pro
Wireless G
English OS
Bluetooth

Of all the options out there, it seems like the US TR2AP3 has all of the above except Bluetooth.  But it’s pretty close and that may out weigh importing one from Japan.  I didn’t think the US models had wireless G but I was surprised to see it listed this way on Sonystyle.com today

Between the two, I think BT is more important than wireless G.  Yes there is the dongle approach, but if you use it a lot…

I’m under the impression that the Japanese TR2/B comes w/out English OS.  Additionally I’m not sure if it’s XP pro or not.  I presume this would also making the 1gig target a more expensive option as you would have to add two 512sticks.

Is there a way to add bluetooth internally to the USTR2AP3 and call it a day?

Any other comments appreciated.

I don’t think you can internally add bluetooth unless you have the right sony parts. I suspect it might also be using a different motherboard as well. You can also get a Bluetooth PC Card so that it’s basically installed all the time…unless you need to use your PC Card slot for something.

Yeah, all Japanese models come without an English OS installed unless you buy it from an importer…who will charge you a nice premium.

I’m not sure about the memory situation on the TR2/B models. I would hope by now that they simply use 512MB chips only to allow for easier upgrading since these chips are now readily available.

A buddy of mine picked up a TR2AP3 for around 2400 today on the Net.  Very tempting…  Almost there!
