i’ve decided to go with getting a 3.5” 120 gig disk as a backup storage but am thinking of getting a circa 60 gig portable music player as well. any ideas on what the best solutions are?
At that size, the most popular choice is probably the Creative Zen Xtra. If you bump down to 40 GB, the field opens up to choices like the iPod and the iRiver H140 (my personal choice).
He hates it. The faceplate fell off, the sound isn’t great and he hates the jog dial. His is a Zen NX. Oddly enough, another friend’s wife has a Zen and loves it. Hers doesn’t have the problems that the Zen NX has. I’d go to a Zen forum and ask. As I said before, I own an iRiver H140 (which I love) so you won’t get much actual usage info from me.

mmm tough decision, must see whether i can sacrifice not having 60 gigs, your player does look nice
I swear the Zen products are poorly built. They look good in the photos but when you seem them up close in the stores they don’t exude the same feeling. The plastic parts just look cheap. It may have great electronics and features but the build quality just turns me off.
LOL: does anybody heard of the Sony ‘Ipod Killer?’
It’s only 20GB, but it looks pretty sweet. Only problem, it uses Sony’s ATRAC3 format exclusively, and that as we’ve all seen, is hell and high water in the past.
I’m hoping that the Toshiba 2.5” 100GB might be implemented in a few months in a new player or something.
[quote author=“Drachen”][quote author=“diego”]the capacity is too small i’m thinking i need at least 50gigs
Is there a reason you need 50GB, especially if you say you’re getting that 120GB backup drive?
ye well as i said it’s a backup drive so the data would be in 2 places ie. on the player ad on the backup drive, and i don’t really want the hasstle of transfering music back and forth
