I am looking for a sleek ear/headphone to go with my TR. My wishlist is as follows, in order decreasing importance.
- portable (hopefully comes in a nice, handy case)
- sleek design to match the TR
- with built-in microphone
- voice quality
Main usage will be watching DVDs when travelling and Voice Conferencing. Any recommendations? Thanks.

Well, I personally use the MDR-DJ700s. They’re good for DVDs and aural quality, as they were made for DJ remixing. THat said, they’re a tad on the bass heavy side, which may-or-may-not be a good thing, dependinging if you like pumped bass, or a clear unbiased sound. However, they lack voice mic powers. But I would purchase these and a five dollar set of Voice Mic alongside it.

I would think your choices would be pretty limited in an application like this where you need both, but something like this should work . If portable is your main thrust, check out the Sony MDR-EX71SL (I believe the white one is available in Singapore).

sorry for the earlier post. I did not see drachen and invisiblefly’s postings ... I will check that out at our local stores. But at USD$47, is it too pricey?

keep trying ebay, they have the best prices. most stores will carry the Sony MDR-EX71SL, but ebay seems to be the best place to get the “white” ones which are the asian import ones. the US version comes in black, but if you want to match them up with your tr, i’d go for the white ones. the sound is pretty good and the bass is fine, too. they’re a poor man’s “shure” earphones, but they do the trick.

I use Sony MDRG73 with my TR. Perfect if you don’t like ear bud head phones. They fold up to nothing and the sound quality is pretty good too.

Sony MDR-EX71SL - I’m on my third pair, and they’re the best ear buds I’ve ever used - maybe I have a funny ear shape, but these are the only guys to stay in properly, even at the gym!
I always use to envy seeing Asian tourists in London - they always used to walk around with the coolest kit, and have the latest walkmans etc - now I feel I’m getting there, as loads of people have asked about my earbuds (even used them on stage a few times!), heheh!

Deathstar: You can try some large multiplexers, such as Cnet.com’s Price Watch. Froogle, powered by Google.com is another good search start. Try those, especially Cnet. THey might have multiple models under review for you.

nox: Thanks for the link.
From some of the reviews (in CNET), somebody complains that the cord is too short and the extension is not working well. Can someone confirm this?

I use my EX71s with an MP3 player remote, so the cord is perfect for that. I’ve had no problems with the extention myself, but the only time I use it is when I’m watching a DVD on the road.

No problems at all - the fit is very snug on the extension, which sits in my Ipaq 4150 almost permanently! I then just use the ear buds on whatever device I’m plugged into at the time!
The cord on this model is slightly different, not sure how to explain it, but my previous EX71s never tangled up due to the really cool extra slippy cord, these new ones seem a little more “standard” if that makes any sense at all - having said that my previous pair did not have an extension…swings and roundabouts I guess.
