just got the price for the tr5mp, 2830 euro
tr2mp is 2699 euro

so im defo going to try change my order, wish me luck

Hm…the DVD-RW and the 1GB mem doesn’t seem quite right for a TR5xx, w/o P, P2, or P3…are you certain those are the specs?  Doesn’t seem as if all that’s for only 200 quid more than a TR2MP.

If you re-check the specs above you will see they both come with 512MB. The extra cost is therefore for the extra 0.1GHz & DVD-RW.

I have had my TR2MP for about a month but if I had known TR5MP was so close I would have gone for that one. Not for the extra 0.1 GHz but worth it for the DVD-RW considering cost/time/technical issue retro fitting one to a TR1MP/TR2MP.

it comes with 512 ram, not 1gb, it’s just saying that the max is 1gb

did you get 80211g with your tr2mp?

Regarding TR5MP in UK, I believe its available in early June & I can recommend these guys as I bought my TR2MP from them at best price & no problems. Do some good options for international buyers I think.

it’s not difficult, especially if you’re living in ireland, just go into any sonycentre and order it, i presume it’s much the same in the UK, if you go to the sony.co.uk site click on where to buy and you can find your nearest sonycentre.

Think they will have them for sale in June as I mentioned earlier. Give them a call for update.

Today, I was walking in Totenham Court Road (a street famous in London because all computer shop are concentrated there even sony centre is there), and i saw in a shop a TR5MP. It seems that the only difference with the TR2mp is the processor which is a 1.1 Ghz and the DVD-RW drive.

At the first i was annoyed because i just bought my tr2mp one month ago, but at the end i am ok. In fact, i am not sure that i would see much differences with a 0.1 ghz more and i am not confident yet to have a DVD-RW drive in a small laptop like this. At that time i would rather prefer to have it as external, i am afraid that those kind of internal drive are really fragile.

By the way, i didn’t ask the price because i saw it late at night and the shop was closed, but there was a barred price at £1700 (inc. VAT) if i remember well, barred means that if you ask the price to a vendor you will have cheaper than the price display.

For my TR2MP, i used to go to those shops to ask for the price, but more or less i didn’t find a better price than the one i got at the airport at Dixons tax free shop. That’s why my TR2 comes from dixons, but for people who can’t buy it at airport, you can find similar price in this street.
