Ye, good point about the security and setup button. I just recently figured it out myself. I can just type in the IP address of the base and open up the web browser to configure the base without pressing and holding down the setup button.
Dynamic DNS service is also embedded as long as you go through the Step-by-Step process, no need to sign up anywhere else.
I guess what I meant about NTCS/PAL is that the Base has the TV Tune built in, so I doubt it will be able to pick up channels in Europe, unless you use an external TV tuner and then you will be just fine any where in the world.

Ye, that is a nice concept of marrying PSP and Locationfree TV. I have heard them talking about it back in January. I am glad this idea will actually be implemented.
Yes, it does not differentiate the accounts, the Base just recognizes one serial key per computer. You can always set up one Locationfree TV account on your computer for exclusive use.
[quote author=“Ataru Morooka”]Hallo, my base station is in Japan and want to register the Locationfree PC version on my PC.
They enabled the device registration and sent a password to me.
Now these are the steps:
1) I start Locationfree PC version
2) I press connect and it appears the console “Base station selection” where Base Station nickname is a name created by me (ex. Basestation) and DomainName/Static IP Address is “XXXXXXXXXXXXXX.LF-B1JP.MyNetAV.com (with XXXXX instead of real values for security in this e-mail ). Port number 5201. Status: Registered Base Station over the Internet.
Dynamic DNS Domain name: Not available.
3) I press CONNECT…please wait…connectiong…your PC is not registered to a Locationfree Base Station. Please register to a base station.
4) Ok….DynamicName/Static IP: as abobe, Port number 5201, Password for registration: the one sent from Japan, Client nickname: created by me (es: client).
5) Start…Registration has been denied by the Base Station. The PC Software cannot be registered to the target Base Station.
So? What do I have to do?
Thank you.
Ataru Morooka
Ataru,
I believe the problem is that you are not on the same network with your Base, that is why you cannot register. Since you mentioned your Base is in Japan and you are somewhere else, it won’t be possible to tie the two together. I believe the instructions prompt that you press a setup button on the Base and while it is in that mode you can register.
Let me know if you need more assistance.
I have recently acquired a Second Generation of Locationfree products and thought I woud share some pictures and comments about it.
Model: LF-X11
There were some major upgrades done to the Locationfree OS and as you see some major changes to the design of LCD Unit. I personally like this new design, as it stands out in black and looks more professional. Sony also repositioned the placement of certain buttons on the LCD Display. The Base Station has also been redesigned and is much smaller in the size compared to its earlier version (LF-X1). Sony has not changed its smaller version of LF unit - LF-X5 with the 7” 16:9 screen. Per Sony, LF-X5 has been their best seller. I believe it is due to its portability as I have mentioned before, it is a really nice unit to travel with or just take along to Panera Bread for free wireless access and your favorite show streamed to you while you eat.
The Locationfree OS is now version 2.0 and is very user friendly. The GUI has changed as well. Configuring a NetAV function that allows one to access AV content from anywhere in the world is a piece of cake as well. No more need to get your own DNS service, the wizard walks you through each step. Sony has embedded its own DNS service.
Certain improvement that I liked in the LF OS is you don’t have to manually connect to your wireless network now, your network is recognized automatically like on any notebook and you are connected in seconds.
Another feature Sony added is a Learning Remote function that allows you to add a device for a remote control, though the data base of brands is huge and included in the OS, some of them I have never heard of.
The LF-X11 comes also bundled with Locationfree Player that can be installed on your notebook.
Interestingly enough, this model is not available in Japan (though the unit is made in Japan). The same story happened when LF-X5 unit was released only in the US and Canada and only 6 months later it was sold in Japan. For some reason Locationfree products are not sold in Europe at all.

Can I run a website and and run Locationfree TV from one IP?
I’m serving up a website from my DSL line at home and I would like to also run Locationfree TV from it. I read that Locationfree TV uses a DNS service to route the signal through the internet. My website also uses a DNS service. I would like to be able to watch TV transmitted through the internet to my laptop.
What is the different bet. these two Player for PC software?
I know there is a big price difference, PC1 $150 , PC2 $30.
I would like to connect my VAIO notebook to view tv/AV from my LF-X5 bs,
which software pack works for me? (both work?)
Can i connect to the LF-X5 base with these software to view tv in ‘Home Mode’ (Not ‘On The Go Mode’) ?
Since i feel that the PQ is better from Home Mode without going through my wireless router (in NetAV mode).
I guess it can only be connected to the base through the home network,
through the router, either LAN or Wireless LAN.
But cannot directly connect to the base like the LF-X5 LCD monitor does.
I would suggest to get LFA-PC2 because it is the latest version of the software and much cheaper, I have both and there is nothing special about LFA-PC1, other than different method of binding the base and the LCD.
I believe only On The Go method is the one to be used with your notebook and the Base, you cannot use the Home mode for it. As you mentioned, you will need to go via your router, i.e. home network, however (I cannot remember now how I configured it; had something to do with assigning the IP addresses), you do not have to have Internet on to view stuff, you will get a fine picture if you just use it on your home network (wired or wireless).
Just wanted to let everyone know who might be interested in Place Shifting idea, Sony announced new and slick Locationfree Products today (09/05/07) and they look pretty cool! Somewhat resemble PS2 design.
