They are only $150 for a supposed 6600mA, but I guess I should go with OEM.
On a related note, anyone know if there are standalone chargers just to charge the battery while its off the laptop. This way one could have a battery always charged.
I had a terrible experience buying a battery for a toshiba laptop over eBay. The battery I had lasted for just an hr so I decided to buy one over eBay. The seller claimed that it carried a full charge and would last for approx. 2 hrs…when I tried it (after charging it fully), it did not last even 10 mins!! I think it was a non-oem battery.
[quote author=“TruthSeeker”]Certain things should never be bought or sold on EBay…used batteries is one of them. A used IBM deskstar is another.
Used is one thing, non-OEM is another. You should never consider a used battery, you have no idea how it was used.
The seller has like 4300 feedbacks, 99% positive and all the recent ones say the batteries perform better than expected. I have bought batteries before on ebay and never had a problem so I think I will get one as well and let everyone know how it works out. Cheers!
You may be fine. I hope it works out for you. It is just that there is a risk involved when buying used batteries. It is not as if you are just spending $10. Nobody likes to risk potentially throwing good money away. Good luck. :D
OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer or basically something manufactured by the original manufacturer of a product. Like the PCGA-BP3T battery is an OEM since it’s manufactured by Sony for the TR who also manufacture the TR itself, while an aftermarket/non-oem battery would be compatible with the TR but not manufactured by Sony (in this case).

To add further using Sony TR battery,
PCGA-BP3T might not even be made by Sony(remotely possible), it could be made by a company called ABC who is an OEM company and brand it under Sony.
If there are no exclusive agreement on the product, ABC could sell the same product/design to other companies without the brand which is of the almost same quality.
