Groovyone, I don’t have the Miscellaneous tab to which you referred.
When I go to Control Panel, then Mouse, I have one choice only. A window “Mouse Properties” comes up with the tabs Button, Pointers, Pointer Options, and Hardware.
None of these references any TouchPad features (e.g. the ability to select parts of the pad for scrolling and forwards/back button presses). Also, none of these has any setting for the toolbar icon.
Under Hardware, there is only one device (at this time, with no mouse or digitizing tablet plugged into my Vaio TR1). It is “Alps Pointing-device”. If I click on the Properties button, a new window comes up, “Alps Pointing-device Properties”. This window has the tabs General, Advanced Settings and Driver. Again, no control works with TouchPad features or does anything about Toolbar icons. In fact, under Advanced Settings is an item that says “Wheel Detection: Assume wheel is present”.
On the Driver tab, I have the following:
Driver Provider: Alps
Driver Date: 02/27/2003
Driver Version: 5.3.509.2
Digital Signer: MS Windows Hardware Compatibility Publi[rest cut off]
If I select Update Driver, and use the Hardware Update Wizard, I find three mouse driver choices. Two say “Alps Pointing-device” and the third says “PS/2 Compatible Mouse”. This is with “Show compatible hardware” checked.
If I uncheck “Show compatible hardware”, there are two drivers listed under “Alps Electric”: Alps Film Pointing-device and Alps Pointing-device.
OK, so that is the state of my system. All I want to do is get the TouchPad icon back so I can change features on the TouchPad. I can even see the TouchPad icon in the list of Toolbar icons mentioned in my previous message.
I don’t want to load in a new driver unless you’re sure the new driver is the “real” one for the TouchPad.
Thanks for any help,
