I had a business meeting today at another software developers company. There was two members from my company and two from theirs. We sat down at the conference table and I pulled out my Clie NX to record the meeting…moments later one of the people from the other companies whips out a Vaio…505 Series…
At the same time the other person from my company takes out his new Vaio GRT. The person from the other company makes a comment that they both have Vaios…
Now, it’s my turn…I pull out my TR…we have a good laugh because all three of us have Vaios…minutes later the other employee from the other company walks in with his Z Series…we almost fell over…all 4 of us had Vaios, all different models.
In the end, two of us had clie’s on us. IT was amazing, all the file transfers we needed we did with MS…it was so simple.
In the end I walked out with a voice recording from my Clie, a video recording from my TR, and a $122,000 software purchase…what a day.
Wow, what are the chances of that happening again? Unless you were working directly for Sony…In those meetings you probably get a pay cut for not having a Vaio.

Very rare, this is the first meeting i’ve ever been to with more then 2 people and everyone had Vaios…IBM usually dominates the business world as far as i’ve seen.
Ha, we should have a TR meetup in our respective regions and see how many TRs we can get in one location. I know we have a fair number of peeps in LA and in SF…

I’d be up for an East Cost meet…I do it with cars, why not with TRs…lol.
I was just shocked at how much of the higher IT market Sony has taken in such a small time. When the first Vaios came out, I wouldn’t have touched one with a 10 foot poll…now, they are everywhere.
And according to a recent article…Sony is really targeting the IT/Corporate sector with their new line up of notebooks. I think the S-series would be the perfect corporate notebook since it basically has everything you would want and is still extremely powerful.
Oddly enough, IBM, arguably the king of corporate notebook makers, is trying to target more of a mainstream audience by releasing notebooks that aren’t the basic plain black/blue IBM stock design. They are going to release them using a range of colors that should be attractive enough to lure people over to IBM. That’s nice and all…but they should really redesign their notebooks if they want a more mainstream audience. IBM makes great stuff…just not the fanciest. I’m still shocked that IBM hasn’t created the uber-subnotebook (with optical drive) yet. They have the engineering to do it and to make one that’s solid and high performing (their trademarks). Ha, they should re-release the butterfly keyboard…do you guys remember that back in the middle 90s? That was IBM’s subnotebook that had this neat keyboard that extended outwards when you opened the lid of the notebook giving you an almost full sized keyboard.

Yes, I do! That was the one and only IBM notebook that i wanted. When I was in the market for a notebook in the mid 90’s (as you said) I couldn’t get the IBM, it was just too much money for a 14 year old. I settled on a Toshiba Satellite…that lasted about a week…I hated it, returned it to ComputerCity (remember that place?). Picked up an AST Ascentia A series…second best notebook i’ve had to date (behind my Acer Travelmate 310). All in all, I should have saved up the extra $350 or so and got the IBM…very unique and functional design.
Too bad I didn’t see that article…i’ve been thinking about it more and more and it’s exactly what i’ve been noticing. Wow…to think, Sony would dominate the IT market…and IBM stepping back…
The only thing I still notice is that Palm/Handsprings are still more used in the business world then Clies…could be the price tag, or that Palm has the name going for it…

Meetup agenda:
9am - How to partition your TR / recovery disk demo (by Rahul)
10am - TR case durability demo (watch Drachen drop a TR from his NYC office building)
11am - How to properly clean your screen (by Tiffany)
12pm - lunch
2pm - “12 uses” for the DC out port (hosted by tifosiv122)
3pm - Bluetooth mod walk thru (gr00vy0ne)
5pm - TR Lan party (at Starbucks)
Well, that can be unofficially discussed during lunch.
Where is the part where we have the TR case/accesories fashion show?
And where is the TR Scavenger Hunt? The main group would wait at Starbucks while smaller scavenger groups broadcast live (using Erik’s Shoutcast guide) finding stuff all over NYC (and checking in at the Starbucks found on every other block).

This is starting to sound like a lot of fun. We can do an East cost/West coast meet and have the 2 streamed so we can see each other’s meet…hmm ideas ideas…Groovy, i’m going to e-mail you tonight.
Hm…it seems as if you have the itinerary all planned out… just wondering though, is this pure speculation, or do you guys actually have a date that might be in the works?
Here’s some stuff to add to your itinerary, (albeit psuedo-legal, but still fun)
=Wardriving with your TRxx (or, why San Francisco is the best place to live if you like wireless internet)
=Building a Pringle Antenna/Portable Backpack Kit for your Warchalking/Wardriving manuevers
=802.11x Privacy (Or how not to get your neighbor’s credit card numbers)
(note, i’m just joking, unless you really want somebody to teach this stuff.. )
