Another surprise guys!!!!! TR5 is just out in Japan!!! Check this out buddies!

Well, it basically just upgraded the processor to ULV Pentium-M 1.1GHz, I would assume nothing new in the specifications.  8)

Also, the old 505 is now replaced by “Type S”.

So please enjoy the day full of surprises from Sony!!  :D

I was just thinking the same.  I am disappointed that the only upgrade is the CPU.  At least that is all I can tell. (cannot read japanese).  I hope they at least added Bluetooth, Jogdial, and Video-out.

Erik: The chinese and many other cultures belive that 4 is an unlucky number. Remember DOS 4? NT 4 SP4? dBASE IV?

I did not see any info on the new 505, the “Type S”.  Sounds like the new Jaguar. :wink:

Yeah, it looks like the skipped the TR4. It’s sort of a shame since the only thing upgraded is the processor. The other interesting thing is the battery life seems slightly worse.

They claim 3.5 hours standard and 5 hours with extended. This is with power management off. Maybe it’s about the same…or they’re just being more realistic.

Snooping around i noticed that there were a lot of new other models and sadly, the Z series is no more. I really liked the Z series design and was hoping they would just modify it a bit to add a better screen and some new updated guts.

Interestingly, the new S series is sort of what I was hoping they would make. It’s a 13.3” Widescreen model (a little bigger than the 12” i was hoping for).

Wow, the battery life is better than the TR series! At 4.17lbs it’s fairly portable especially with a nice 13.3” screen. I do like the discrete graphics chipset even though it isn’t the Radeon 9600 I had hoped for.

With these features, we really don’t need the ‘Z’ series.  This is just what we were hoping for, gr00vy0ne!

4 is an unlucky number because it sounds just like the word for death…

Better would be TR(8/2) = Get half as rich as you want…TR8 would be best. :D

I’m surprised Sony didn’t restyle the TR5 with the introduction of the new chipset, but the S-type looks great. Very Z-series-esque with even less weight, always a winner. I do with it had a higher-res panel like the Z did though.

I hope the US version will have Dothan…or maybe this is just a quick fix / hold-over until they come out with something beefier!

Na, Sony is not above releasing the TR today and a TR2 Tomorrow :sarcasm:...their turn-around time has to be one of the quickest in the industry…but that’s what it takes to be cutting edge.

I’m glad I went with Sony this time around, as Apple is unpredictable with their product refereshes and sometimes it takes almost a year to refresh their notebook line. I waited from January 2001>October 2001 for the first PowerBook G4 revision, something Sony would never pull. It’s kind of nice for TR owners that our machines are still pretty much cutting-edge after so long.

The 1.1GHz part is probably Banias, so it’s no surprise the battery life is worse on the new model. Dothan needs to come along and get it back up!
