If you’ll go here they show 2 different models - PEGUX50 and PEGUX50U and they do have different specifications too like one uses Palm OS 5.2 while the other uses Palm OS 5.2.1. One gives the input method as Keyboard, Stylus while the other gives it as Jog Dial, Keyboard, Stylus, Touchpad, Touchscreen….just to name a few. Even the Sony website just gives 1 model i.e. PEGUX50. So I am all confused about this and the price difference of ~ 30 is significant for me. Could some kind soul please clear things out for me. If there are two models, I’d much rather spend the 30 bucks more and get the better one.
I have the UX-50. As far as I know, there’s only one model. So your best bet is to go for the cheapest one. But avoid the UX-40 which don’t have WIFI and bluetooth. I got mine for 420 shipped from sonystyle.com with a coupon from purchasing my TR2P3 from them.
Your finger would work as a stylus in limited functions.
You can’t write with your finger but you can choose your program if you want…it’s not always the best idea to put your fingerprints and dirt all over the screen.
but that’s the idea of a touchscreen, you touch it w/ your finger, but of course it’s not a good idea to do, that’s why there is a stylis.
but I’m not sure about limited use, you can open/close programs, anything…
how the screen recognises with what are touching it??? stylis, finger, pen…

A Palm PDA is not a multi-task environment…so only one program can be running at one time…so when I said you can open a program it means you can open/close all at the same time. I guess you can use the calculator with your fingers…there are also companies that have overlays to use your fingers to type…fatfingers I think.
Using your finger as a direct writing device is hard to impossible because your finger is very thick…it’s hard to describe.
I am on my 11th or so PDA going back to the first Palm PDA and I can tell you without a doubt it was not designed to be used with your fingers. They make a sylus that fits on your finger if you want, but thats the closest you’ll get to using your finger accurately.
The only issue I have with the UX series is the soft screen (too soft IMO) and the small size of the screen compared to my NX series. The battery life without the extended battery is also a dissapointment.
totally agree with you, tifosiv122.
I have nx80 too, love that thing… i got ipaq too, which I only use as gps navigator in my car, and on there i can navigate using my finger… or is it because of windows ce?
by the way. on nx80, when taking a picture, you can click on capture(screen) w/ a finger.. it works…
[quote author=“tifosiv122”][quote author=“Rahul”]UX-40 is definitely out…actually I never even considered that. Does ur UX-50 have a touch screen and touch pad ?
What do you mean by touchpad? If you mean touch pad like our TRs, then no…no Palm PDA that I know of has a touch pad.
The UX has a touch screen and a graffitti area to write on.
Normally the “U” stands for United States and there is only 2 models, the UX40 and UX50…I think the difference in the specs is just a mistake.
Erik
I really dont know but thats what the pricegrabber website said for input method :?
Could someone who owns a PEG-UX50 please visit the pricegrabber website I have given above and check if the specs of his/her UX50 matches with the one given as UX50U.

Just go to SonyStyle.com, for the most part, it should be correct with the specs…I’d personally go to a CompUSA or Best Buy and look at a UX before buying one…pictures are deceiving…it looks larger then it is…in this case, IMO, thats a bad thing.
I did see one guy with it in my univ…yup it was quite small…I’ve never used a PDA before so dont know if thats good or bad for me..but my hands are definitely itching to take out my credit card and buy 1 before I head back to India.

As long as you seen it, go ahead, if you’ve never used a PDA you won’t be dissapointed. Clie’s Rock!
I got my Clie today and was playing around a bit with it. I noticed that it allows u to play only mpeg files. Is there some software for the clie which could play avi’s (and may be the ones needing divx codec too)? Second, when my battery was at 77%, I removed the power cable and the rate at which that % started dropping was alarming…it appeared as though it would reach 0 in 5 mins or less…ne reasons y this could be happening?

The stock battery sucks, you really need the extended battery.
