I always use the magnify button. When playing old games like starcraft, it is the only way for them to be full screen. But, the camera shouldn’t be good enough to put in, its only vga.

Well… until reading this, I didn’t realize that I too didn’t use very many of my TR’s functions…

I don’t use the:
Modem
PCMCIA jack
Speakers (got MDR-700s for that)
Mic Out
Firewire Port
MagicGate Port
Monitor Out

Wow. That is a lot.

However, though many of you put it down, the WebCam thingie is the best feature I Think on this laptop for pure hokeyness. I mean, when I bust this out, many hot girls look at the webcam and go *squeal, can I have a pic?* so that’s really a good thing for me.  8) Granted, quality isn’t good, but it’s still a fun feature.  The magnify is also a good feature.  Late at night, typing away at some 40 pages thesis, my eyes go blurry, and it helps to have something bigger than 6 point font.
The fn functions are also really handy. Can’t say how many times mute has saved my butt @ school.

PCMCIA - because of the built in wireless I don’t need to use my wireless card, so I shove it into the Vaio-W.

Modem - I always seem to be able to hook up to broadband/wireless.

Yeah, it would make everyone’s life easier if they just put a 6-pin connector. I don’t mind buying a 4-pin to 6-pin cable. I have tons just laying around. Also shame on Sony for not releasing a 4-pin + DC out to standard 6-pin firewire cable.

I don’t use DC either because I don’t have a Sony external hdd/dvd device…

I do use the iLink/firewire when I need to… it’s alot faster to transfer large files between the Vaio computers :D

Let me put another spin on this… I travel around the world and I use the WebCam to chat with my wife and my daughter. We have high-speed connections in our homes and most of the time, I am fortunate enough to have access to high-speed connections on almost every continent.

Thus for me, the WebCam is a feature that I use (also saves me a bundle in long-distance fees from “rip-off” hotels . Now, the main reasons I traded my Micron for this TR3AP1 were the battery life, the size and the fantastic screen.

I very often use the PC-Card slot (I need it for HF Radio modems for work) and the video port for PowerPoint presentations.

The only items I do NOT use are the Memory Stick port (My camera uses SD media) and the DC port… but this might change if I get an external DVD burner.

But then again, I also own a fully functional PCG-C1X, so I might be a bit partial

Hmm… I find it an original addition and I often use it when showing stuff to others. Thus, I DO use it

A few days ago I ordered the Sony 80 gb gigavault drive…the firewire one. Does anyone know if it has the facility of drawing power from the TR’s dc out port ?

I have used a few portable HDD caddies both with Firewire/USB1/USB2

Unless the Sony has the propriety connector you won’t get power from the 4 pin port (as your probably aware).

I now use a DIVCO Momobay USB2/Firewire caddy with a 40GB Toshiba drive as I find the Toshiba seams to use less power than say the Hitachi 2.5” HDD and can even work of a lower powered USB1 port :D

I use it for full system backups of my TR via USB2.

Leave the TR alone I say! I use all the hardware features & wouldn’t want to give any up.

If I had to give up one feature it would have to be the hardware screen resolution button.

Well from what I know about the new 80GB Gigavault, it has a 6pin firewire. So if you can achive a way to make the DC-out and iLink into a 6pin firewire… then it would be possible
