Since we had the question a week or so back, which feature would you like to see, I pose the question…which feature do you not use?
A while back I would have said the floppy drive, finally notebook manuf. figured it out and stopped building it into notebooks…
For me, on the TR, it would be the modem…I have no use for it. If I can’t get wifi or 10/100 access I use my USB to CellPhone cable and connect that way…I don’t even have access to a dial-up account to attempt to use my modem.
This is hard. I actually use every single thing on my TR. I might say the modem jack but then I do use it every now and then when I don’t have a signal for my mobile phone.
I don’t use the Microphone jack…but i guess I’d like them to keep it around…or at least turn it into a line-in/line-out/optical jack (software configurable). I guess the headphone jack could also do that as well.
OH! I know what one feature I do not use on the TR. It’s the freakin’ BASS BOOST. I used to love that feature on my old VAIO SR7K because it actually worked on that system. On the TR, the BASS BOOST lowers the audio level making it pretty useless. I think it’s a botched implementation. So, yeah, they can remove that until they get it right. It’s usually not a big deal anyways.
That absolutely useless webcam.
The microphone.
The modem (for the same reasons as you).
The MIC In (I’d rather have a Line, but I’d never use either, honestly).
That fucking proprietary DC port next to the 4-pin FireWire port. Can’t we just have a 6-pin jack?
The PCMCIA slot.
I only used the iLink port and the modem a couple of times. I also don’t use the camera for anything serious. The one feature I’ve never used is the pcmcia slot.
[quote author=“Drachen”]Wow. More than I expected.
Much more then I expected anyone not to use…wow.
I love the webcam, lol…just yesterday at work we setup a shoutcast video server and walked around with my TR closed just having the camera exposed. We walked around the whole building and got full motion, full screen video of everybody…lol, it was great.
Doh, yeah I forgot to mention the DC out port…but I do use the 4-pin firewire connector…but only because I have to.
Yeah, it would make everyone’s life easier if they just put a 6-pin connector. I don’t mind buying a 4-pin to 6-pin cable. I have tons just laying around. Also shame on Sony for not releasing a 4-pin + DC out to standard 6-pin firewire cable.
I don’t use the PCMCIA card as much as I used to but it’s still handy to have in terms of digital photography support. It’s just easy to snag the memory cards out and stick them in an adapter.
Motion Eye is iffy with me. If it’s not included then I won’t cry over it…but having it definitely allows for a lot of fun though mostly non-productive uses…except for FedEx/UPS/Airborne Express cam.
- Magnify Button
- Modem
- Rarely use the ethernet port
- DC Out
- PCMCIA
The magnify button, infact I find it to be a pain since if I press it by mistake, it completely messes my desktop icons, since it needs to adjust them to fit in the smaller resolution and when I return to the normal one they dont change their position, and getting them back into place is a big time pain.
