My fully charged up (100%) standard battery can only last 3hrs 40 min. Is this normal? I thought it can last much longer than that ...  :(

My full charge capacity is 47.73.

A lot depends on how you use the TR.  Screen brightness, drives running, processes, etc… That is why so many on this forum modify and fine tune the power panel and other features to maximize battery life.  There is always the option of the ... PCGA-BP3T !

Sony’s claims of 7 hours were ridiculous. 3.5-4.5 hrs is the normal time the battery would last.

It really depends on what you’re doing. Yes, Sony’s claims for 7 hours were a bit optimistic however, I was able to manage nearly 6 hours with the standard battery simply using the TR as an MP3 player (with screen closed). So, it’s not completely off base.

I have a feeling there should be a little asterisk by 7 hours and a footnote reading:

* Test performed with computer at idle with screen and hard drive off and no applications running. 7 hours not applicable in Vermont, California or environments exceeding 300 Kelvins.

I usually get about 4 hrs with my standard battery…I’m cool with that since I have the iGo Juice adapter in my car.

As Groovy said, I also got over 6 hours using it as an mp3 player alone…it’s what I usually do on plane trips. Now that I got a Dell DJ mp3 player I have no need for my TR to be my mp3 player on trips.

Even 3-4 hours is still very good for a notebook. Most of my friend’s get 2-2.5 tops and theirs is close to 10lbs!

Good point, tifosiv122.  Several of my colleagues at work are lucky to get 2.5 hrs when in the field.  I’m so pleased with my TR that I take it for granted how blessed I am to have such superior battery times without giving up much on performance.

Yeah, the whole battery life spec is so hard to nail down. In most cases, I’d say that most manufacturers exaggerate (some more than others) and they never say exactly how they test or where they get the figure from.

It is a hard thing to measure since everyone has their own preferences to what applications they’re running, how bright they have the screen, etc.

The TR does still have pretty phenomenal battery life considering everything. Yeah, those desktop replacement laptops basically don’t have any battery life…especially the straight up P4 versions. The battery on those units is usually so pathetic that they really only serve as portable UPS units.

I had 11 batteries for my last notebook…each only lasted 1 hour 45 mins tops. My Dell gets 3 hours, its an extended battery and its a Celeron which runs colder and less power hungry.

Looks like IBM still has the best battery life. My colleague who is using x31 has at least 4 hours of usage ...
