I know this is sorta off topic, but it IS an issue I’m having with my TR.  :D

Having (finally) gotten my wi-fi network set up between my desktop and my shiny new TR, I have a question about sharing calandar and contact info between the two computers.  I have XP Pro on the desktop and XP Home on the TR.  So far, I’m within the original 60 day evaluation period for Office on the TR. 

I have an iPaq that I used to sync with my desktop using ActiveSync.  Do I use this to sync between the TR and the desktop?  If not, what do I do? I’d like to be able to open e-mails on the TR without fear that they won’t end up in my inbox on my desktop. 

Similarly, I’d like to have my favorites updated between the two machines without having to remember to copy them over. 

Essentially, I’d like to be able to have identical access, on either machine, determined by user, not by machine. 

Remember to talk really, really slow and use small words.

I spent several days working out how to do this when I got my TR2.  I know have it so that when on my network, the TR updates itself with my desktop so that I’m effectively only working with one set of files and it doesn’t matter which machine I’m on.

On the desktop you need to share all the folders which you want to access from the TR.  If you want to limit access to these folders on the network check out this topic .

Once the folders are shared you need to enable ‘offline files’ on the TR.  This is found in My Computer - Tools - Folder Options - Offline Files.

Next you go to network places and find the folders being shared from your desktop.  Right click on the folders and select ‘make available offline’.
Once XP has finished sycnchronising everything, if you go off your network you will still be able to see those folders in your network places as if you were still on the network.  If you make any alterations to those files, when you next connect to the network you will be asked if you want to sychronise the files with your desktop.

I did this with my ‘My Documents’ folder off my desktop and to make things easier, I right clicked on ‘My Documents’ on my TR and changed where it points to, to the offline network version.
You can also do this with your ‘favorites’ folder by using Microsofts Tweak UI as described here .
