How can I change the default path for IE favorites?

What do you mean by the ‘default path’??

By default, the IE favorites is located at C:\Documents and Settings\leetm\Favorites.

I would like to change it to D:\abc\Favorites

In windows explorer’s properties, use this path and switches in the target:

C:\windows\explorer.exe /n,/e,c:\

I’m sure a friend of mine did this a while ago by using tweakui from microsoft.  I’ve had a play with this XP version but I can’t see anything about the favorites folder.

I’ve also had a browse around [url=http://www.tweakxp.com]http://www.tweakxp.com [/url] and failed to find anything.  Is a good site tho, so thought I’d mention it….

I think that you can only use the script in a shortcut rather than the actual program.  I use it in the shortcut I have in my quick launch bar next to the start button…

To change the default path for the IE Favorities, you can do it by modifying the Windows registry key located in:  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\Favorites to the new path you want the favorities to be.

It does not seem to work. The value is automatically reset back to the original C:\Documents and Settings\... after I have restarted all my IE browsers.

deathstar: i suggest you use MS’ free PowerToy utility to do it. It’s extremely easy to do.

Just go here and browse for the directory that you want and then you’re done. You may need to log off and log back in for it to take effect.
