i thought it is hard to upgrade things on notebook. I might be even harder to upgrade on our tiny laptop,Sony TR. From what i’ve seen for this site: bluetooth, wi-fi, dvd..etc. Now i know i was wrong. Also thank you so much for this site. I loved you guyssss.

No, you can’t upgrade the video card because it’s integrated into the main chipset (which is soldered to the motherboard). Even most discrete graphics solutions on many laptops are not upgradeable. Only recently has it been possible but usually it’s only on monster sized laptops weighing in over 8lbs….or more.

Yup I had recently read somewhere that the alienware 51M has a user upgradable graphics module.

Are you sure, I am 99% sure that this isn’t true. If I am not mistaken, only Alienware has upgradable videocards.

It’s essentially only Alienware…although I believe there’s one or two other smaller vendors also providing this. It’s definitely not the norm. I believe Alienware is trying to champion the idea of this and create a standard.

Of course, I think it’s all moot unless they’re building the new standard to be based on PCI-Express.
