Just would like to share this info with you guys here!!!
While surfing halfway last sunday, my TR1(upgraded with BT/512ram/WinXP) hit a BSOD. I have the laptop on my lap on my bed while watching a DVD. Then shortly after programs start shutting down unexpectedly. Within mins, the system barely can start and it’s restarting non-stop. Thought I had been infected with the sasser worm which is impossible. I problem even getting to safemode.
Thought it could be due to OS problem, tried restoring my recently backup image. While restoring halfway the system hang irregularly at diff stages!
The scenario got worst by not being able to boot at all, Powering on and off didn’t even initialise the HDD!!! Thinking it could be due to my BT module or my added ram, i took them out and try restoring again but failed.
Sent in my notebook to Sony Singapore for servicing on 10th May. The staff told me servicing duration is 5-7 days. Gosh I was shocked to hear such long turnaround time. Told them it’s urgent since I’m depending on my TR for work and leisure. On 12th May, I recv their call telling me my TR is ready for collection.
Got my service report and was told they replaced my HDD and motherboard. Took a peep at their jobsheet with price stated(my copy doesn’t have any price), and got the shock of my life the HDD cost 300+ SGD and the mummyboard at SGD 2400+!!!!!!!! totalling 2700 odd!
Lucky me it’s still in warranty and not required to pay the bill. But it left me thinking what if the system breaks down after warranty period? I might as well buy another machine?
Sony’s product are famous to fail after their warranted period. I’m now taking extra care while moving my lappy everywhere, put it under minimum shock and having it at very well ventilated place.
What do you guys think?
