I bought my TR3 in Singapore and the DVD drive should be region 3 (southeast asia). The question now is that if I change the DVD region setting to Japan (Region 2), will I be able to play DVD from my original region 3? If I change from Region 2 to Region 1 later, what regions can my DVD drive play then?

Region 1 is US i think. Most drives only allow you to change the settings about 5 times, then you cannot change it anymore. So i guess you have to make your mind up which you want.

you can get an application to allow you to change the setting more than 5 times (this is for sony’s) or you could buy software which would allow unlimited or region free playing (heaps of different packages out there).

Don’t change regions.  There’s a freeware multimedia player called VideoLan Player, or VLC for short. http://www.videolan.org  It supports all modes and regions, just tinker with it.  In fact, it’s possible to rip a DVD to HD via SmartRipper, and then play the DVD by .vob file selection in VLC.
That’s what I do on plane rides to save energy and battery life.  It really helps the battery, as you don’t need to continually read from disc drive.
