alright cant figure this one out, usually pretty savvy with this stuff but, mental block…

deleted hidden partition, XP pro installed. uninstalled all extra nonsense, all games gone, hell all adobe products gone. upgraded to a gig a ram, even when running on a laptop cooler and AC power. loads to windows pretty quick, but then XP takes FOREVER, i mean like a full 2 minutes to load up.

startup progs include norton, aim, and power panel.

is this something i should just get used to? i dedicated some ram via ramdisk, i can get it to around a minute loadup in windows now but, something im missing? thanks.

turn it off with hibernate would helps alot

I do not find that my TR3 starts any slower than any other laptop that i have owned - certainly not 2 minutes.

Also, either ‘hibernate’ or ‘standby’ ensure a very quick restart with minimal battery usage impact during the ‘off’ period

On mine, the Symantec - Norton program really slows the startup.

Norton is notorious for slow boot times.

i have the same dramas with the TR1. I actually haven’t explored it yet. Mine takes a least 2 minutes and doesn’t even play windows start noise for about 90 seconds +. I am assuming it is because it is starting heaps of things like nortons, power panle, etc, and once i turn some of these off it’ll be better, just haven’t got around to it yet :?

I have recently installed Norton AV Pro 2004, and the boot time became long enough for me to walk around the block.  :(

Yesterday I took it off and installed AVG, boot time is back to fast again.

I knew there was a reason I fell out with Norton a couple of years ago.

AVG is great, and it’s free. Norton is just too slow for me to use as well.

what are good internet security software to use with TR? i’m currently still use the Norton Internet Security that came along.

What do you mean by internet security? Firewall?

I know as far as a software solution, I’d prob. use Zone Alarm…but I don’t trust software solutions, I personally use a hardware firewall.

check for spywares/adwares.. i had a whole buck on my tr2 that i didn’t think existed.

What I like to install on new computers:

AVG free
AdAware
Spybot

Get rid of any norton or mcaffee stuff, they always slow down my boot times considerably.
