It has come to my attention that not enough people are using their Webcams on their Vaios…I am going to assume that part of the reason is that it isn’t the easiest thing in the world to setup correctly.
For this reason I am going to outline the easiest way to setup a webcam that many people can view at the same time in full screen quality.
First, let me say that everything I will be showing you is free to use the only thing you really need is a high speed connection to make the video look perfect. There is a delay of 5-10 seconds because it is buffered to make the stream clear and smooth. Yes, I tried it, it works 100% perfect over wifi as well.
Step 1 – Download Software
1. Get the Full Version.
2. Get NSV Tools
3. Get ‘Be A DJ’ and ‘Be A Server’
Step 2 – Install Software
1. Install Winamp. Make sure you keep the support for Video and Audio Files. This does not need to be your default player.
2. Install NSV Tools
3. Install Shoutcast (both Verions)
Step 3 – Configure programs
1. Run Winamp.
2. Hit Ctrl-P.
3. Under Plug-Ins go to DSP/Effect. You should see “Nullsoft SHOUT cast Source…†Click it.
4. Click Output
5. Under Output Configuration put localhost as the Address
6. Pick a port, I used 9045
7. Assign a password
8. Go back to the DSP/Effect page and click NONE, the ShoutCast box will close.
9. Close the preferences box and close winamp
ShoutCast should have created a program group under the start menu.
1. Locate “Edit Shoutcast DNAS Configurationâ€ÂÂ
2. Open it
3. About 20 lines down, set the MaxUser to whatever the most amount of people you want to see your cam at one time, I set mine to 5
4. Another 7 lines down set the password you set for shoutcast
5. Then set the port that you specified in Shoutcast another 7 lines down
6. Go to file, then save the file
7. Close the document.
In your NSV Tools Program file open NSV Live Capture
1. Click on NSV then Config
2. Go to encoder config
3. Set Audio to NO AUDIO
4. Set Video to VP3
5. Hit OK
6. Hit OK
7. Click Devices and make sure the Sony Camera is checked
8. Close live capture
Step 4 – Run Application
At this point your setup and ready to go. Once your at this stage this is the part you want to run every time you want to setup your webcam.
1. Go to your Shoutcast DNAS program group and run Shoutcast DNAS Console
A Dos window should open. You should see 0 Listeners
2. Minimize the window
1. Under NSV tools, open NSV live Capture
2. Click Capture
3. Click Start Capture
At this point frame times should start showing up on the bottom of the window.
That’s it, your broadcasting live!
Step 5 – Give other people your site
1. Have them install winamp.
2. Run Winamp
3. Have them hit CTRL-L
4. Type in: http://11.11.11.111:9045/;stream.nsv
Where 11.11.11.111:9045 is your IP and your port #
5. If they don’t see the video, have them hit CTRL-V for the video window.
You can do this yourself to see your own camera
Good luck, feel free to ask any questions you want.
