I’ve accidently pulled a PS/2 out with the computer hot as well. It could have been some strange coincidence what happened to Drachen. Or, there may have been some electrical discharge at the moment the plug was pulled. We all know it doesn’t take much to kill a motherboard.
The point Drachen was making was that USB may be better than PS/2 when it comes to mice and keyboards…Mainly because USB is fully PnP and does not react strangely to unplugging while the mobo is on.

Its not the unplugging of a PS2 that is the issue, its the plugging back in.
My other issue with USB is native support. Most newer MBs have it, but anthing over a year old its anyone’s guess…without Native support getting into the bios might be a PITA.
Either way, for me, right now, all my keyboards are USB except one…nothing I can do about that, the ones I like are all newer.
I thought it was a myth until one of the higher-ups at my company actually did it. We had to replace the whole motherboard because both SP/2 sockets died when the keyboard was yanked out. It wouldn’t boot again…
Wait a minute, are you talking about unplugging the PS/2 Keyboard/Mouse while the comp’s running hot? We do that at my school all the time as [stupid] pranks…nothing’s ever happened. :?

same here..I do it quite a lot of times at the place I work in my univ…no probs as yet
Well, I wasn’t making it up. I don’t know what he did before he called me in, but the machine wouldn’t boot due to a keyboard error and the keyboard worked in other machines. It’s certainly possible that he wrecked the contacts, but on inspection it didn’t look damaged. At any rate, my main worry at the time was getting this guy a new computer on his desk because as inept as he was, he was a VP. :?

Lol, we all believe you, I just think it was caused by something else…
One time I inserted a CD into my PC, three seconds later the computer crashes. I was positive the CD had a virus on it, turns out my HD had a head failure…just coincidence…
Weirdest problem I ever had like that was a Dell Poweredge 2500 that was spontaneously rebooting for no apparent reason. It goes down, and we run to the server room to check it out. It’s basically off and we’re suspecting some sort of hardware problem. I pull the top power unit out out of frustration and the Dell BIOS screen comes up. I put the power unit back in and boom! The machine goes down. We just kept the top power bay free until Dell sent us the new motherboard.
Here’s a tip for using free PS/2 ports… if you ever get a External HDD that uses 2 usbs, get one of those USB to PS/2 adaptors and use that… because the 2 usbs uses one of them to pull more power for the device, so if you used a PS/2 it wouldn’t really matter as it’s only draining power from it and the cool part is you save a usb…
[quote author=“linc”]i wonder if these will work with the universal docking station to get the vga out.

Tried to read the first link with my morning coffee. Not suggested. :? I’ve seen some incomprehensible tech sheets and installation instructions, but this takes the cake.
Interesting gadget. The resolution/bit limit and video speed/rendering prob make this perfect for spreadsheets.
When I was looking, the port replicators I found offering monitor hookup just did a a pass-through. You still had to hook two cables to the TR. A rather useless feature IMHO.
[quote author=“tifosiv122”]Problem is its still not an all in one…or all in one plug at least…
Erik
Short of a machine with a docking port, I really don’t think you’ll see a acceptable solution. I doubt USB can cut it for other than minimal graphics. Perhaps a firewire unit could deliver. Either way it’s a pretty convoluted kludge.

With the TR I couldn’t care about graphics…I just need it to display native, nothing more, nothing less.

Its not a game machine, at least, for me.
Erik
For the TR I coulodn’t agree more. At least the TR has a vga port and dual monitor support.
I see no reason the Tritton unit shouldn’t plug into a USB hub/port replicator. Have to wonder if you’d get any energy management features.
