I don’t know if I like the idea of putting a 2.0 GHz part in the TR. IIRC, the ULV chip in our TRs draws about half the power that the chip in the A17does. I normally wouldn’t scoff at giving something more power, but I don’t think the TR needs it compared to the hit on battery life.
[quote author=“Drachen”]I just saw this notebook mentioned elsewhere and I’m surprised nobody here picked up on it yet. It’s basically Sony’s answer to the Apple 17” Powerbook . I know a lot of you will like the port replicator.
Drachen, I think you posted on the wrong thread. We were talking about the new mini tablet from Sony.
the thing i like about the look of this thing is the lightweight and has all the advantages of a subnotebook - no extra legacy ports when you don’t need them, no extra drives hanging off all the time. I am sort of tending to edge back to a little u series myself as the TR is heavy (man?).
I had to lug it all over Sydney for a couple days last week and the extra 400 grams for an optical drive that i haven’t used since i loaded Max Payne was really getting me down.
I have been looking closely at the U70 and here are my concerns: how does one access the internet when beyond the 150ft range of a hotspot? Concievably, you could use a USB BT adapter and access the web through your phone although then you lose the keyboard. A BT CF card is also an option but I have been unable to find any info if the U70 supports this function or if the slot is intended solely for CF memory cards… when dealing with Sony you never know. IMO I can’t justify spending $2500+ on a device that can not access the internet while I am out and about. Does anyone see any work arounds for this apparent design flaw?
