Was just looking at some of the settings I could change and came across this in the graphics options for “panel fit”.

Does anyone know what exactly this does?

It basically allows you to forcibly make the OS resolution fit the screen. So, if you run the OS at 800x600, 1024x768, and 1024x600 then panel fit will stretch those resolutions to fit the free so there’s no black bars.

Thanks Groovy, I thought that might be what it was.

Luckily, I am still young and shouldn’t need to run my screen at lower resolutions for at least another 25 years.  By that time we’ll have computers on our wrists and displays on contact lenses so that shouldn’t be a problem.

i’m just curious, let say if i stretch the screen to maximum(means there is no black part at all), will that uses more battery compare to smaller resolution with black part all around?

Interesting question.  Doesn’t the LCD still have to populate black space, thus, using resources to fill the unused area?  Even if it draws more power, invisiblefly, it might not even be a measurable difference.

yeah that’s what i think ,too. i would be somehting that really hard to measure. by the way, the black part seems to be off for me not black color. i’m not really sure tho

We may never know, or care to really know.  What I’m trying to say is that we both will more than likely not lose any sleep over this.

Yes, the pixels still need to be lit (black) so it isn’t like the screen is shut, however, when the screen changes it is changing the color of the tiny pixels…even when you move the mouse across the screen…if the screen contains a lot of static parts (black bars) then technically it should use less battery.

However…you might be talking about around 1 minute or less of total battery saving per charge…in other words I could almost promise that you won’t see a difference.
