My friend once bought 3000 NICs at $1 each (Dell pricing error) and attempted to resell on eBay. Good idea, but tons of work moving that much merchandise. Or, tons of time, I should say.

The only thing I have got so far through a price mistake so far was an iRock 128 mb MP3 player from buy.com which was advertised for 5.99 instead of 95.99 + free shipping. I regret not ordering more of it…could have sold them on eBay.
one friend of mine told me that his friend once found a price mistake at amazon…they were selling some expensive IBM laptop for $1. He placed an order for around 4000 of them…finally amazon cancelled the order.

He should know better… 1 or 2 laptops whould be just fine, one to keep nad the other one to sell.
Yeah, whenever you order in bulk like that, someone always looks at it. Not for the reasons you would think, though. When a large order is placed it creates an opportunity to land a big commercial account. So orders over 1,000 units or so would trigger such a lead for that company.
georgi0 is right, keep the order small, and you have a greater chance of “flying under the radar” as it were.

Thats why I was so surprised that DELL didn’t cancel he 3000 NIC order.
Dell does some weird things sometimes…I ended up getting a Server + PDA for $149 shipped after $100 rebate. I sold the PDA on ebay for $100 and had a full server for $49 with 1 year service and support.
Yup they also some problems with 200 gb western digital harddrives..they were selling it for 200 bucks with 2 rebates each of 100 bucks while i think they wanted to put up just 1 rebate. So they sent out notices to all buyers that they would not be able to honour the sale with 2 rebates and that each customer would be eligible for just 1 rebate..so that gave the buyer the option of cancelling or letting the order be as it is. However, in the end they did decide to honour both rebates..so plenty of ppl got free harddrives.
They haven’t canceled my order yet. Still indicates that they are currently out of stock. Doesn’t matter too much to me. I just want the little bag for my adapter.
