Need help ... I tried upgrading from XP Home to Pro with my TR3A; during upgrade (30 mins left / Installing Windows/devices) I got the Blue Screen of Death and TR restarts and back to 39 mins (loops).

Is there anything that I need to disable first before upgrading (camera?, ..)?

I dont know if doing an upgrade is the best thing, however if you follow this little tutorial for doing a clean install of win xp pro with other things working like camera, 4 buttons, etc, u should be well off. another member has confirmed that things work fine on the tr3a as well.

Yeah…this happens sometimes. Basically, Windows XP Home was never meant to be upgraded to XP Professional. The fact that some people are doing it still amazes me…because you’re really not supposed to do it.

It’s almost always better to start from a clean install. Well, hopefully someone who has done it successfully can share some insight…or they may have been lucky.

Instructions on the upgrade procedure:  
You SHOULD follow the step for “A quicker installation” because I had a blue screen issue when I upgraded from the CD but not when upgrading from the hard drive (reading this post just reminded me of that issue) . Number 2 & 6 are very important (security measure).

Windows XP Home & Professional are the same program. They are both known as Windows NT 5.1 or build no. 2600. The reason that they have different names is because XP Home was stripped of some features that remain in XP Professional, but the core components are the same. The upgrade process is actually quite smooth because of this.

Although it’s usually better to do a clean installation, I found it not to be the case with the TR.

Thanks for all the feedback ... I ended up doing a clean install - no blue screen, but I had some minor setbacks on the drivers - but were solved.
