My DVD/CD-RW optical drive in my 2 months old TR2MP in dead!!!!  :(

It is not functiong after it crashed when playing a DVD. I reboot the computer for hundreds times, and run through all the trouble shooting steps, but it is still not functioning. I can’t open the drive when push the button, the light in the drive even doesn’t light up when I reboot the machine as always does. I have called Sony and I have run through all the things they thought might be helpful, but still failed to get it back to live!!!! Today, the Sony-Vaio Europe has arrannged a DHL to pick my machine up to repair which will take 7 to 10 workings day to be back…..sigh…. :cry:

I had so many laptops before but non of them had optical drive problem…I’m so dissapointed with it as it is only TWO months old… I have another Sony laptop but never have problem with it…so I think I’m just the unlucky one to have this crappy TR…. :cry:

Did you poke the little hole with a bent paperclip to get your DVD out? Perhaps the DVD itself forcibly stuck the drive? Well, at any rate, you’re already sending it back so there’s not much to discuss here. Please let us know what the end result is.

Of course, we’ll monitor to see if other people have the same issues. At any rate, you can’t necessarily blame Sony for the part….they don’t make it. It’s a Matsushita 755 drive.

At any rate…i’m sure everyone hopes you get your TR back quickly.  :D

Thanks gr00vyone…I do really hope to get it as soon as I can as i really need it everyday for my works…

Well, I did used the paperclip to mechanically/manually make the drive opened and succeeded to take the DVD out from the drive. But after that, the drive just didn’t back to work anymore, no matter how…the Windows just didn’t see the drive at all, I just couldn’t see the drive in the device manager list. I tried to detect new hardware but Windows didn’t find it. 

I firstly suspected it was the Windows/software problem but finally found out it should be the hardware problem, because I just couldn’t open the drive even before the Windows started -  where normally you can open the drive when you reboot the system before the Windows launched.

Anyway, eventhough I have this problem, to be honest I still feel very satisfy with this little machine after using it for 2 months. I will keep you guys updated about what all the story is about… Let’s hope it comes back to me soon then…

gr00vyone, I think I’m not alone, I just found someone in this forum have his DVD drive problem too…which is quite similar to mine one….
