I’ve been lurking here for a couple of weeks, which is roughly how long I’ve had my TR! This is a great forum and I’ve already learned quite a bit. (Not that I’m planning on cracking the case to install the internal bluetooth anytime soon, though!)
Regarding the idea of onboard GPS, I think the idea would be of very limited utility. A GPS antenna usually has to have a good view of the sky to get a lock, and there will be many times that you will want to use GPS without subjecting the TR or yourself to the outside.
The coolest remedy would be a bluetooth GPS, where you can put the Antenna portion outside of your car, boat, whatever, while you and the TR (or PDA, for that matter) stay inside.
A cheaper solution would be a simple USB GPS, as often you’ll have the TR within a few feet of the Antenna anyway.
Eric, I agree that a biometric reader built in would be terrific!

And I agree with your comments on GPS, lol, the signal would be horrible, but it would be cool to say it has onboard GPS.
With high-end notebooks coming with fingerprint scanners I am still mystified with the lack of one on the TR especially since it is on the higher end for technology (camera, size, etc).
Ohh well, I have no other use for my PCMCIA slot anyway…
[quote author=“Arma Suprema”]:D THAT’S where my bluetooth adapter is going!
Lol, i’ve never seen a PCMCIA BT, but I am sure it exists. This is my first notebook without at least 2 PCMCIA slots, but with so much built in I didn’t see a need for more then one.
It seems I never have enough USB ports (mouse, flash media reader, etc) but with since the TR already has a NIC and a modem (what is THAT for?) I’m not sure how often I’ll need the PC slot.
Of course, I could just get a CF/PCMCIA adapter and call it good. . .
BTW, now that all of you “uberusers” have installed internal bluetooth, are any of you planning on selling your now-redundant Sony USB bluetooth adapters?
[quote author=“tifosiv122”][quote author=“zen_vaio”]i think one thing that would make the TR not want me to carry a PDA anymore is ... and INSTANT ON feature.
Unfortunately wont happen anytime soon and Sony has nothing to do with this, unless they go CE.
Erik
Just wait until they replace Hard drives with Flash Ram…you could still have XP and the instant on feature, could you not?

Yeah. Those are right around the corner…
...From your mouth to God’s ears! (wishful thinking on my part)
I will be first in line to buy, but not holding my breath. Prices have to come way down. Volume isn’t that far off (already up to 4GB)
Retail, the 1GB part is about $400. No laptop maker would add something that expensive to a non-premium (like X505-class) consumer model. Remember that Sony decided we didn’t need that BT module in the US TR. The 4GB models cost retail about as much as my first car did.
