no one really needs any of these gadgets. We just buy them to think we need to think we need them. I own a Clie, i use it everyday, but i could live without it
Most of my life is on my Clie: my checkbook/expenses, my schedule, my addresses (the ones I don’t need in my phone), my subway map, my Tricorder emulator, my list of bands to check out and my access to the New York Times when I’m out of cell range.
Also helps me contemplate the Buddha nature of a PDA. :|

Wow, people actually use PDAs for real? Haha, I use mine primarily to test out new games and listen to music and movies…I played SimCity 2000 and Quake on my iPaq…that raised a few eyebrows. But seriously, I <3 PDAs and all that, but that brick in my pocket is certianly not superior to my notepad and paper planner. Plus, I don’t have to worry about memory loss.

I had a Clie and thought I was unable to live without it…then one day I dropped it in a parking lot and it shattered infront of my eyes. Very traumatic let me tell you… I didn’t immediately replace it and a few days later I realized that it was a freedom NOT feeling that I had to constantly carry around contact- and to-do lists.
Never bought a second one.
Don’t miss it.
My Clie is an extremely useful tool. I use it for job specific functions as well as personal use. It streamlines my search for references, stores a great deal of information (with the help of memory sticks) and is a great traveling companion when I want to play a game or watch a saved TV show or movie (thanks to the memory stick VCR). It takes up very little space and provides a lot of functions without having to boot up my TR. I find it invaluable.

Seriously, if I wasn’t such a Net addict or gadget fiend, I probably wouldn’t have gotten the TR. I have used PDAs for years and have gotten used to whipping them out when I need something. That’s not something you can say for a notebook. What I *should* do is to dump my PDA for my smartphone exclusively, but there are still a lot of apps I’m used to on the Palm that don’t have true replacements on my phone. They don’t have analogs on paper planners either.
I ask only because I’m tired of carrying TWO devices around in addition to wallet, keys, etc. In the past week or so, I’ve been rethinking how much I actually use that sucker, and I decided to just put it to the test by leaving it at home. Turns out, I barely need it at all. To be sure, there are instances when I’ve said to myself, “good thing I have my PDA” but the relative infrequency of those times doesn’t seem to outweigh the burden I feel in carrying around another device.
I might try the Treo 600 if T-Mobile ever gets around to carrying it.
I’m looking forward to the Sony Ericsson S700 phone, since it’ll let me carry around one gadget instead of my CLIE, iPod mini, and T616 like I do now. I’ll keep the CLIE around for things like financial programs and the built-in WiFi when I want to look something up really quick but don’t want to boot up the TR.
All I do as far as PIM goes is look up contacts and keep a daily schedule with alarms for reminders, which the T616 can do fine, but what I really want is the QVGA screen (240x320) on the S700, which is 4 times as much resolution as the 120x160 screen in the T616. Currently I can only see the first few words on my appointments/tasks, and use the CLIE instead.
I have had a Palm IIIc, a Visor Prism, a Treo Smartphone and most recently the Nextel Blackberry. I just purchased an iPod. Every system to date has been imperfect - the Treo was a great tool, but the coverage here in Canada was awful - the Blackberry is the closest I’ve come to the perfect tool. My email arrives immediately, it has calendar (updates my office immediately if I add an appointment on the road), contacts, memo pad, to do list etc. I sometimes miss all the cool Palm OS programs, but with the TR I’m going to stick with the BB.
Always wanted to buy one - but I don’t like to bring too many gadgets.
I’d like to replace my cell phone with a pda/phone but I’m still waiting for right one (Sony of course)
