I’ve done it several times…I’ve seen other do it… Would it be possible (desired?) to restrict postings to users that are signed on in order to prevent Guest postings by accident?
The again it may be only me that sees that as a good idea..
[quote author=“Rahul”]It might be better to popup a dialog box (when a user is attempting to make a post) letting the user know that he/she is not logged in.
I like Rahul’s idea better. Unless you want to restrict access to guests having the ability to post…which would thus make it a member perk.
Well, isn’t that what the ‘Automatically log me in’ portion of the log-in all about? I’ve placed it on auto-log in two months ago, and it’s held since. Besides, you can just look in the upper right hand side. Perhaps it should be changed to red ‘Warning: you are not logged in,’ instead of making the forum more restrictive?

Ok, here’s my thought on this. I originally didn’t make registration mandatory because I wanted to give people a chance to “test out” the site and get comfortable with it before registering. Of course, it’s different now that we have a good group of established members now. Now, you can get around the login mess by enabling cookies. The cookie should last for a long time as the time out mode is really really long.
I can try restricting the entire site so that you have to be registered and see how it goes. Perhaps I need to start a poll for this. Or, I can get a show of hands here. What do you all think?
I also think it would be easier to have registered members only post. There is nothing restricting unregistered lurkers from benefiting from the information on the site. It may have the added benefit of streamlining some of the threads if only registered members contribute.
It seems more secure, but I like it the way it is now, with gr00vy acting as moderator, and everybody generally getting along with one another. I think we’re mature enough to not require any more ‘members-only’ posting, it allows infrequent visitors to just post their question w/o too much hassle.
