Well I thought I would register while waiting for my TR2 to arrive later this week and am obviously planning to upgrade to XP Pro straight away!!  Have already downloaded all the drivers etc as detailed in the various posts on here, but while snooping around the sony site I came across this page which seems to be sony at least acknowledging that people will want to upgrade.  The nice thing is that if you follow the links sony give you a link to the main driver page and also drivers for the motion eye.
I’m sure someone else has probably mentioned this but thought I would give my two cents (or is that pennies with me being in the uk :?

This will definitely be good for the members here. I love how Sony’s support varies so wildly from region to region. You would think that they could lower their overall support costs by developing a single consistent support solution database. It’s not like this is something new. They know that people are going to try or want to upgrade their systems.

Shame they couldn’t be bothered to get it proof read by someone who actually speaks english properly!!  This is sony… what do you want…. perfection :shock: but it’s better than nothing I guess… Not that it’s really needed with places like this to go instead tho!!
Right back to the studies before I start thinking about how far away friday is :(

Yeah I guess you can’t complain that much, but it still isn’t something that a company like Sony should be doing… doesn’t give the impression that they’ve taken time to really help their customers!!
Of course if Sony wanted to employ me to proof read all their translated stuff for the Uk (and I guess US…) market and pay me a small fortune I wouldn’t say no…. just in case anyone from Sony ever reads this!!

Is your TR2 not the recently UK launched TR2MP I just bought as when looking at prices they all appear to come with WinXP Pro SP1???

Well I bought mine of Ebay and the picture my seller has of the side of the box shows that it’s just the TR2 with home edition pre-installed… That’s alright tho, I’d still wipe it and reinstall anyways as I’m a bit of a clean freak when it comes to computers.  I like to format at least once every six months!! Gives me a strange sense of satisfaction that I’m looking after my stuff well.

No I believe that when you upgrade it keeps all the relevant drivers so everything should work.  If I remember correctly, that’s what sony suggests you should do as it makes life easier.
I’m too much of a perfectionist to do an upgrade, I like to start anew, but I can see why it would be the preferable choice for most people.
This is my first post from my TR2 btw Only took me a few hours to get everything sorted thanks to all the help on this site and some forward planning!!

saying at the bottom that Network Smart Capture does not work, you will need to get the “Smart Capture Library” off someone since I could not locate it on any of the sites.  Rahul kindly passed it to me and it resolved 2.
